OK, Ivy League. They open their season against us. After us losing to Bradley (206 RPI last year), I ain't gonna predict anything. Anything less than a sweep will be disappointing to me though. If our starters don't kick their ***, the ACC is going to kick ours good.

Dartmouth beat UMiami in Miami 2 of 3 last year (imagine how disappointed Miami was). Dartmouth ended the year with a 114 RPI. There is some info on the players at D1 Baseball: https://d1baseball.com/season-preview/2018-conference-previews-ivy-league/ I think it's pay info so I'll summarize. They have 4 hitters over 300, but of course they play weaker competition (SOS last year was 190th). Plus they have a largely untested pitching staff.

I'll admit I will be disappointed with anything other than a sweep...greedy? Maybe. I'm waiting on the offense to get rolling and hopefully, that starts this weekend. Having said that...lessor teams win games in baseball often (relative to other sports). It is an easy formula as @MWBATL said... just play sound baseball, throw strikes, don't beat ourselves.

That's where I'm at. If the competition isn't ranked you always want the sweep. If lesser teams get 'lucky' and win a game and you go 2-1, then that's okay. But don't go 2-1 or worse because of your own mistakes.

Sounds like Dartmouth is rebuilding. "...still a work in progress"

From article... assumed Friday starter, Cole O'Connor
Taking up the mantle as the staff ace is the right-hander O’Connor (4-2, 4.27 ERA), a control specialist who is at his best when he is keeping hitters off-balance. When he takes the mound, he gives Dartmouth a chance to win, having surrendered more than three earned runs in just two of his 17 career starts. O’Connor pitches to contact and rarely walks a batter (1.77 per nine innings), making his defense an integral part of getting outs.

After that, I think their starters have limited experience (not zero... but limited). I stand by my hope/expectation our offense busts out this weekend. Now that I said that... based on the mysterious "fan forces" in the universe, we'll get shut out twice like Miami did last year by these Big Green nerds. :geek: ....that last statement inserted specifically to counter the forces... wait... geez, what HAVE I DONE?

I'm not sure if that is too soon or not. Assuming it is too soon, I'm hoping Thomas's next appearance will be the UIC series next weekend. I'd like to see Lee get another shot to prove himself this Sunday. & give Hughes the same type shot mid-week against Ark-Pine Bluff.
Ditto everything

Looks like Hurter is starting Saturday. TBA for Sunday. So I’m guessing Lee or Chapman on Sunday.

That Hurter is Saturday and TBD is Sunday is bad and good. Bad that Lee or Hughes didn't lock down the spot. Good that Hall is quicker to bench and pull pitchers than previous years.

I really like Lee and think he is a real tenacious bastard when he gets going. I was disappointed when the error that didn't end the inning was followed by not throwing strikes. Hope he gets a chance again on Sunday.

Hunter was ok in his relief the other night ( memory only). Surprised he is starting as a true Fr.

Maybe Shiraz gets a start soon. He really threw well after a couple innings.

Shiraz is fine... if paired with beer? I'm a Mer-LOT man myself.

...& to pile on... because I think you can take it @GTNavyNuke, Hunter ~ Hurter

Let this be a lesson not to work all day, drink all evening with people on travel and then post by typing on a phone when trying to chill out ......

Anyway, Hurter decision to start still surprises me this morning. Hurter faced 3 Bradley batters, 1 walk, next hit by pitch and next was error. Hardly the resume for becoming a starter. Of course, we don't see him in bullpen, only when it counts.

Any thoughts on the batting order today? I hate to say it; but it seems Kel should move down (or out of?) the order. I'm not interested in kicking the guy if he's down... but it is pretty clear he is struggling to even make contact.

Does anyone have any update on when we may see Carter Hall back too?

Here’s my guess for lineup tonight going against a RHP
2B Bailey
LF Murray
C Bart
1B English
DH McCann
SS A. Wilhite
RF Co. Hall
3B Waddell
CF N. Wilhite

Also interesting with Hurter—wasn’t he hurt for most of preseason practice? Thought I had read that. We just need some guys to keep us in the game by not allowing the “freebies” and I’m also including the error “freebies” from our defense.
