Cox Signed by Colts?

The Colts signed former college basketball player Demarco Cox, who just last week was competing in the ACC Basketball Tournament for Georgia Tech.

Interesting. I thought he had to go through the draft before signing with anyone. I guess he is exempt from the draft process because he didn't play football in college?

I'm curious as to why he was eligible to be signed as a free agent before the draft?

doggone. That's embarrassing. Tech posts a 11-3 season and the first guy signing to go pro is a basketball player on a dreadful team. I'm guessing nobody messed with him on the court.

Embarrassing for who? Our football players aren't eligible to sign with anybody until after the draft.

I wonder why Cox can already sign, but other players have to go through the draft? There's probably a rule about it, but dang...imagine being a stud QB coming out of college and you're tied to the draft and your contract is slotted because of the new Rookie Contract rules. If you come out as a free agent, you're not tied the scale.

Something a little uneven about that rule.
