As I was thinking today what it must be like on the front lines, surrounded by largely old people suffering tremendously, I thought Jeez, how could it get any worse? Well, I just read an article of how it could definitely be worse.

Viagra might be a possible treatment:
https://www.latimes.com/science/story/2020-04-05/viagra-discovery-could-treat-coronavirus-patients

Now imagine being a nurse on the front lines, walking down hallways full of largely old people suffering tremendously, and they all have enormous erections.
maybe they better just hang a raincoat on it and run up and down the hall tellin' everybody to look, while they can :)

What may be lurking under the surface, part 2. See:

https://gothamist.com/news/surge-nu...ls-suspect-undercount-covid-19-related-deaths

Short article: the shortage of tests means that only hospitalized patients in New York are being tested for COVID-19. Problem = the number of home deaths in NYC have increased by 400% in the last month, year over year. These dead are not tested for the virus and, as a consequence, not included in the death stats. The deaths at home, however, seem to be mostly among the elderly and going from 20-25 deaths a day to around 245 is suspicious, to say the least.

Well, as a matter of keeping stats, there's no way to condemn this. If you can't test, you can't narrow down causes of death and some of these people would probably have died anyway. But it does call into question the reported total number of deaths and the death rate for the virus in New York. One wonders if the same thing happened in Wuhan …

> Don't put your N95 in the microwave! just hang dry it for 3-4 days
N95 masks have a little metal strip at the bridge of the nose which exists to allow the mask to fit better there.
So there will be an electrical arc from the microwave's magnetron to the metal strip.
The mask has fiberglass weaving in it. This will melt. It is also flammable when melted. The webbing holding the mask to the head will also melt. It too is flammable.
The electrical arc from the magnetron to the metal strip in the mask will ignite the flammable materials.
You will then have a nice smoky, awful smelling, and even a little bit dangerous, fire going on inside the microwave, complete with sparking.

> All aboard!
Andrew Cuomo: Use of Hydroxychloroquine ‘Anecdotally’ Positive in New York Hospitals
At the briefing, the governor noted that the antimalarial drug had reportedly helped many people infected with the disease, but official scientific data was yet to come
> We'd all love to have the clinical trial results yesterday, but in the meantime the many, many thousands of lives it's saving is more of a good thing than a bad thing. Guess Cuomo can apologize later for not waiting.

Sorry, as of right now this is nothing more than a conspiracy theory with no real basis in fact.
> Conspiracy theory you say - There's a retired US Army Colonel who disagrees with you
US Army Colonel: Coronavirus Was Leaked From A Chinese Lab
“Time and additional evidence will show that coronavirus ‘leaked’ from a Chinese laboratory.”

A retired US Army Colonel is among a growing list of prominent figures to lend weight to the theory that the Coronavirus now ravaging the globe leaked from a Chinese bio-lab in Wuhan in late November.

Lawrence Sellin Ph.D. is a retired colonel with 29 years of service in the U.S. Army Reserve, who previously worked at the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases.

In a recent op ed, he writes that while “there appears to be a politically-motivated campaign to demonstrate that CoVid-19 occurred naturally as a species ‘jump’ from animals to humans originating in the Wuhan wet market…there is still little evidence that directly supports that contention.”

Instead, Sellin posits that the origin of the virus is more likely to be a lab leak, arguing that “the technology to create a coronavirus chimera has been demonstrated,” and “deadly viruses have previously ‘leaked’ out of Chinese virology labs in two separate incidents.”

“Given the illness, death and economic destruction caused by CoVid-19, it is the responsibility of the Chinese government to fully open its research files and databases to international inspection, including information about the hundreds of coronavirus isolates, in order to ascertain the true origin of the Chinese CoVid-19 coronavirus.” Sellin urges.

The way Cuomo's comments are being reflected in some press is not really accurate with what the context is and what he said.
The comments came from Monday's PC when he was asked 2 specific questions about Hydroxychloroquine.
He mentioned it was being prescribed in some hospitals and that there were some anecdotal reports of positive results. He did not say he has seen any positive results. He actually said it would continue to be tested but it would be weeks if not months before they would have any conclusive data on it. He was certainly not supporting the idea it was some miracle cure - actually it was quite the opposite.

The Sermo survey that talks about Hydroxychloroquine is actually quite different from how their Press Release portrays it as well.
First off, 50% of the doctors have had no experience at all with COVID patients. about 1/3 had ordered a test and about 1/5 had actually treated a COVID patient.

Here is the actual wording for the question about treatments
How would you rate the efficacy of medications you have used or have seen used to treat COVID-19?
In the Global responses, 38% picked a 4 (very - 27%) or 5 (extremely - 11%) effective.
In US Responses was 28% - 4(18%), 5(10%).
What that doesn't show is the rest of the story. In the Global response 34% picked little or no effectiveness.
in US responses 43% picked little or no effectiveness.
The highest rated treatment was plasma from a patient who already had COVID19 which was around 50% as a 4 or 5.
When you can barely get a 1/3 of respondants to say it is effective, that is not exactly a huge endoresement - especially when that many say it isn't effective.
in Global responses Tradional Chinese Medicine got 4 or 5 from 34% of doctors and non-approved drugs (Remdesivir) got 37% 4 or 5. In the US it got Remdesivir got 30% 4 or 5 (higher than Hydroxychloroquine).

They also had interesting responses do a couple of other questions.
The doctors were asked when restrictions should be lifted. In the US 63% said 6 weeks or more from now, 33% said 8 weeks or more. (Globally it was 54% 6 weeks or more and 29% 8 weeks or more).
In terms of who should make that decision
40% globally and 43% in US said that decision should be made by global/regional health organizations and scientists. 23% globally and 25% in the US said political leaders.

In terms of another wave. 88% of Global responses and 93% in the US said it was highly or somewhat likely there would be another wave.
