I agree but here’s what transpired. We have exercises for a reason. There's a reason schools have tornado and fire drills. There's a reason firefighters have exercises to put out fires with different scenarios. There's a reason large buildings have evacuation exercises a couple of times a year. There's a reason doctors and nurses have emergency exercises in hospitals. There's a reason why you/your company participated in those exercises.
Some will pay attention and it will pay off when the time calls for it. It will save lives. Some won't pay attention, and when the time calls for it, they will be in trouble. Let's hope the people guarding our gates were paying attention.
a. CDC, NIH, etc knew there have been gaps in the wire for 2 decades. They passed more regulations and made the situation worse.
b. Media whipped up frenzies to sell advertising during previous events, ie Swine flue, H1N1, etc and the events were not nearly as humongously catastrophic as they purported. As successive waves occurred, people tuned out. Key decision makers were trained to tune out.
c. Politicians who most rational people distrust heard wails of doomsday scenarios that were imminent that never were. Instead of couching the preparations in reasonable terms, they resorted to “throwing Granny off the cliff” claims and the. people tuned them out.
Every one of these shortcomings I hear we’re panicking about now- respirators and ventilators, masks, disinfectants, vaccines, hospital beds, stress on healthcare workers, economic impact, not enough docs and nurses, etc have been beaten to death in endless scenario reviews. Our wonderful politicians take that and weaponize to the harm of our nation.
We’re getting what we paid for. Time folks wise up.
