Well, with 24, the first 8 would get byes. So, you'd have 9 v. 24 and 10 v. 23, etc., in the first (opening round). So, not really as bad as you're portraying.
You’re assuming they get byes. Read @Northeast Stinger’s post. He didn’t say bye. He said Nr 24 playing Nr 1. Playing.

I just don’t see that game getting the viewers needed to justify the media rights. If you do, great.

What’s different? We don’t know what an expanded playoff would look like numbers wise.
A number one seed playing a number 24 seed is going to be closer to the average viewership of the number one seed. A number one seed playing a number four team is going to have SIGNIFICANTLY more interest and viewership.

This is the problem. There’s two different arguments. One is talking about everyone getting a fair shot on the field and the other is talking about interesting, exciting matchups. While they don’t need to be mutually exclusive, most times they will be, to an extent.

It comes down to what’s more important to you as a viewer. Everyone has their own opinion.
Yeah, we’ve identified this issue before. Most college playoffs are attempts to have a fair system. Whether basketball, baseball, softball or whatever, no one thinks about how can we set up the most interesting matchups. People may have minor complaints about seeding or which regional but everyone accepts the system and believes the final outcome is legitimate.

That makes top division college football a totally different animal and really begs the question as to what a national champion means.

Every NCAA sport pits champions of conferences and some at large in a tournament to determine NCAA championship. Instead we get some gross "CFP" committee nonsense. Just make FBS football the same as every other sport. I don't see why these posters are complaining about more football. If there are 16 teams, then guess what? It will eventually become a final 4 and the 4 best teams that have earned will play. The people who only care about the "best teams" or whatever can wait until the final four while everyone else will be excited for more meaningful football.

Let's also be aware that more of the regular season will matter to more teams. Our season was over 5 games into the year, yet we still had a chance to play in the ACC championship at that point. Imagine how much more meaning the remainder of our season would be if we still had a chance to play in a true post season down the stretch?

4 seeds have won the baseball national championship and its exciting to watch. We have had some remarkable cinderella stories in basketball that captured the nation's attention. Football misses out on some wonderful storylines because people would rather 12 bozos in a room get to make a decision instead of the 22 players on the field.
