You do realize there is a Title IX challenge adding any mens sport that has scholarships. Both soccer and wrestling have 9.9 scholarships per sport. To be competitive it takes a lot of money for sports that don’t generate revenue.

OTOH, adding women's soccer could add 14 women's scholarships and women's golf could add 6. That would even out the addition of men's soccer and wrestling. The Big10 also has a lot of schools with gymnastics. If GT added that, it would add an additional 12 women's scholarships.

Not looking at revenue, just the Title IX implications, it wouldn't be difficult to maintain or even gain ground.

Well done Tech fan. yes, title 9 is an obstacle, and yes I know our finance problems at Tech, my quote wasn't in anyway talking about the realistic feasibility of adding those programs, just the ease of which we could have quality if we did.

We have a soccer loving demographic that does real well in computer sciences.
Both times when i escorted on field to watch warm ups and the wrek come out of tunnel , the escorts we taking computer science.

There are only 74 Division one schools with wrestling programs and 62 with women's gymnastics. Why would GT ever want to get involved and be a bottom feeder in those well established sports/programs. Zero bang for the substantial bucks.

When thay invite some one to share in their big tv money , i think they would like for us to have complementary sports programs.

I believe our next varsity sport will be a women's team. With the ratio of male/female at Tech trending more towards even, we will need to add more women's support to balance per Title IX. The support for athletes (male/female) has to be consistent with the school student body ratio.

Maybe? The bottom line is It’s all about fb, thats where the TV money comes from. Those other sports are a Literal drain on the athletics dept. budget that could be spent on football. The ACC has several sports that we don’t participate in, who cares? If the BIG decides to take us it’s not going to be because we agreed to add Women’s pickleball, it’s because of the Atlanta market period.

So we have the CS department set up a crypto mining operation that beats out the others in the world so that we start pulling in 20 - 50% of the newly mined crypto currency. The Athletic has a hit a homerun with that expansion/realignment series. If anyone is reading that series, GT plays a pretty prominent role across several articles.

We use to joke that GT should join a "Smart League"...well, university presidents of some elite Southern schools actually talked about doing just that. The irony for GT is we tried to protect UGA during those discussions as GT didn't feel they could leave the SEC without UGA.

The Smart League? The Ivy League of the South? If secret 1962 new conference talks ever got to the naming change, that’s lost to history.

Thanks, that was another interesting article featuring Tech prominently.
Interesting to read some of the comments such as: "I thought I would hate this realignment series to be honest, but a couple days in and I’m certainly coming away with real respect for Georgia Tech. I can appreciate them having the courage of their convictions and reaching a line they wouldn’t cross."

I'm kinda shocked that The Athletic is doing anything that features Tech. I canceled my subscription a year+ ago when they removed the dedicated GT writer, and all I could find on our team were offhand mentions in other teams' writeups.

Has it gotten any better, aside from this one series?

If by "better", you mean more articles featuring Tech, no it hasn't. The realignment articles so far have been written by Seth Emerson, the UGA beat writer.
I find their in-depth articles, particularly the "human interest" ones, generally worth reading and a cut above the usual sports journalism. They have a different approach than the "5 things about..." that the AJC employs. I only subscribe if I'm offered a good deal. Whether or not one finds the content worth it is up to the individual, as tastes vary.

Yeah, that's fairly aligned to my thoughts on them from before. Their features are usually good, but I find it frustrating that they continually push a "team-focused" app experience, then don't give much attention to my team.

Still, with the NY Times disbanding their sports section and moving all content to the Athletic, I'm hopeful they'll start broadening their coverage when given a few more resources.
