If we are as good or better than last year, I will be absolutely shocked. Some people think we will just be able to replace Smelter/Waller and Days/Laskey with the same production. Those guys were incredible.

We will basically have the same defense as last season with, hopefully, the addition of JHD. People think were gonna make this huge transformation on D. We were pretty terrible on defense last year, with the exception of a handful of guys making key plays throughout the year. If JHD is the real deal, that should turn our defense from bad to slightly below average. Our DL is still thin as hell and we can't afford one injury. Slightly below average defense would work for me if we had the same production of our offense from last year.

The good news is we still have Justin Thomas, 4 starters on the OL and PJ calling plays. If we won 8 games and a bowl game, I will be extremely happy.
I understand what you are saying but what I'm saying is I believe we have the talent there are just a lot of questions and the reason our d was so bad was d line, and we have the ability to be very good on the d line you forget freeman has put on a ton of weight so he should be better plus hunt-days should be way better than anyone else on the line from last year and we have whitehead now as well as kallon is stepping up from what they say and Simmons stepped up the last part of last year from our db perspective we are good and lb all I'm saying is there are questions but don't count out the gyms before its all said and done cpj already said our d looks way better so why would that not tranition into the regular season? I'm not saying we will have the same kind of year as last but untill we start losing in giving the team the benefit

He will be in the mix but he isn't the biggest guy...around 200 pounds.

Where as MLD is in the 220 range and should be 230 when he gets here...Just think he is likely more ready.

Yeah, but he's only 5'9". Those guys that are real low to the ground with big legs are hard to tackle. See P.J. Daniels...5'10" 205 in his Sophomore season. Ran for 1,447 yards averaging nearly 5 yards per carry.

...and for those of you that remember Chan's offense, it wasn't exactly on toss sweeps on anything like that...most of it was right up the middle and off tackle.

I try not to put too much stock into guys that have never played a college snap before, but this guy looks pretty damn good from his film. His vision once he hits the hole looks incredible. This the one I have the highest hopes for in this class, and we may need him this year.

And he looks too much like Hines Ward.:)

The biggest problem we had on defense last year was no pass rush. That puts tremendous pressure on teh LB's and DB's and leads to a high 3rd down conversion rate. Both of those things hurt our efficiency and effectiveness last year on defense. We lost Green, who stepped up last year, but get everyone back on the D-Line. If we add JHD at DT, Gotsis, Gamble and Kallon are going to be better with another year of development. We add Whitehead (pass-rush specialist, like Michael Joshnson or Felipe Claybrooks) on the edge to keep Keshun fresh and I think we'll see a better performing backfield. I expect to see huge strides made this year by our defense.

To me, the biggest question (besides if JHD becomes eligible) is how the SDE develops. We've got the bodies; someone is going to need to step up, or we'll slide someone out.

Thank you, you described what I was trying to say a lot better lol

I would be curious to know the smallest B Back that has been a starter for CPJ.

I agree that Marcus has great film but from a size standpoint I don't see him being ready to play B Back this year...Could actually see him playing A Back this year.

But I am sure he will first get a crack at B Back...I just think that between MLD and MM that MLD is the most likely to play.

Hopefully we land Skov...Skov + Allen could carry us then we try to redshirt both MLD and MM...there are tons of scenarios...Will be fun Fall camp.

I bet the coaches are glad we decided to pursue Marcus Marshall now.

Is he really at 200lb or is that roster weight? They get a little cute with those heights and weights sometimes. I remember them listing Will Bynum at like 6'0" when he was at Tech. Then I met him after the tournament run and stood eye-to-eye with him. That dude was 5'8".

So is Marshall really at 200lb or is it more like 190?

I remember the possibility of Byerly moving to BB at one point. Was that just fan talk or was it actually being considered? How is Jordan progressing? We'll prob see a lot of him tonight. Also, could Byerly train for both? Wasn't Syngyn prepared a couple of years ago to take snaps at both QB and AB?

gtalltheway I think you understate the performance of the A backs in 2014. Deon Hill, Charles Perkins and Tony Z. all made significant contributions. If you don't think so just rewatch the UGA game. Hill and Perkins were both huge in that game. With Snoddy coming off an injury and Andrews less experienced, I think we have some big question marks about maintaining the level of play at A back this year. I hope we do but it is yet to be determined and remains a question mark, along with B Back and the receiver positions.

Go Jackets!

No I agree our a backs were great last year I'm just sayin I believe we have some guys who can step up and play at the same level, and that I'm more worried about b back and wr rather than a back but like you said there are questions

Byerly to BB was just fan talk and CPJ has said that although Jordan is tough as nails, that he isn't ready for significant playing time.

Wow. Get those true freshmen ready to compete. Rooting for Quaide/CJ to get/stay healthy - there will be opportunities when they are ready. Start of season seems so much closer now.

That was a board thing, one that I was kind of in favor of, assuming Jordan was the real deal as reported. But spring camp has Jordan not doing very well at all, so that is out if it was ever in.

Ok you piqued my interest and I'm currently on my planning period so instead of the stack of grading needed to be done next to me I looked it up (hey it's Friday and a Tech game day give me a break.)

I only looked up CPJ's head coaching years and not the b-backs he had as an OC (because archives are not that good)

So it appears in his Head Coaching jobs the smalled B-Back was His first one at Ga Southern with all of them over 200 pounds.

I mean he actually smiled at them!

ok ok ok I'm done.
