I was wrong! I thought Ohio St would win big. I didn’t watch the game but looking at the score it was a tighter game than I was expecting.
Nor really. OSU was ahead 31 - 7 at one point. ND scored a couple of late touchdowns in the 4th when the game was already decided.

Gonna have to disagree with you there. ND scored one of those TD's in the 3rd quarter and they were one 3rd & 11 stop away from getting the ball down 8 with two and half minutes left. The game was most certainly not decided.

Unbelievably enough Paul Fienbaum this morning said that the B1G owns college football right now.

"The Big Ten, at the moment, owns college football. And there's no way you can say it doesn't... it's an uncomfortable feeling for the SEC, which has owned the sport. But it's a reality this morning."

Interesting article below about the financial advantages a school like Ohio State has in the current world of College football. I show an excerpt from the article below.

B1G's average athletic budget is $174.1 M per year. Ohio State's expenditures on athletics was $274.9 M. OSU has the highest Budget in the country. Any correlation to last night??

"How much does its financial advantage benefit the Buckeyes? That's been hotly debated for the last six months. Before the start of the season, Bjork told Yahoo Sports that the football team's players were promised "around $20 million" via NIL deals from the Buckeyes' donor-led collective and its affiliates. That's likely the highest figure in the country, Yahoo stated, and throughout the season the number took on a life of its own. Former Alabama coach Nick Saban joked about it on an ESPN broadcast in August; Washington coach Jedd Fisch referenced it with a tinge of jealousy and frustration during a press conference in October."

What? $20 million NIL budget is the highest in NCAA football? I thought we have been told over and over again that some individual players are getting $8 million. I am highly skeptical of any numbers thrown around for individual players. Some players don't understand and get it wrong. Some players want to brag, even if it isn't factual. Agents like to have huge numbers in the public to try to advertise for themselves and attempt to influence the market. Nobody else is talking. How can the pundits credibly declare that individual players are getting multi-million dollar deals, and at the same time declare that Ohio State's $20 million budget is the highest in college football?

That’s what I saw too. ND faked a punt deep in their own territory and the receiver dropped the ball giving OSU a short field goal. That alone was a big point turn around.

ND still had a shot with less than 3 minutes in the game but their call for a 7 man blitz on 3rd down got picked up by Ohio State for a long pass completion down to the red zone to run out the clock.

Ohio State made the fewest egregious mistakes in this game of any of their playoff games and constantly threatened to blow the game open. But pictures of their fans in the second half when ND closed it to one score showed them biting their nails.

Ohio State was a meat grinder for anybody who played them in the playoffs but Notre Dame showed a lot of guts and didn’t give up.

The game was very much in play in the 4th quarter. Ohio State completed the long pass on 3rd and 11 with about 2:30 left. If they don’t complete that pass ND has a good chance to to make the tying score. They had gone TD, missed 30 yard FG, TD their prior 3 possessions.

Yeah, I like the way they didn't give up. A lot of teams would have packed it in behind 31-7.

Way off topic for this thread (but well within the ball park by Swarm standards) how do people feel about Kirk Herbstreit?

My feelings about him are starting to turn a little sour. I could give reasons but it’s not really rational. I used to like him. I don’t hate him now but I would prefer games he’s not working.

I think it would be fair to say that a lot of attention is being paid to him, instead of the games. His dog. His race horse. Etc.

I think that is ESPN would stop with that nonsense, he has been about the same as a commentator until very recently. I think recent news would indicate that he has some things going on personally that are probably affecting his ability to be an excellent commentator. I think that he has been more subdued in the last few broadcasts of his that I have seen.

I don't understand why media companies do that with personalities. It seems quite common that a TV show with good actors and good stories will eventually abandon the good stories to try to highlight the acting abilities. It drives me crazy.

I had no idea what you were talking about, so I googled and found out he has been dealing with health crises of multiple members of his immediate family. That’s about as tough as it gets. More power to him for carrying on.

Five Conference Champions got into the CFP and all had the opportunity to show they were the best team. All lost, Nothing wrong with that. As for the rest of the Conference Champions, that would be an absurd joke of a playoff at best!
I'll start with...I like the current format. I'd like 16 teams with all conference champions participating getting the top seeds (if we have 6 or 7 conference champions in the Top16, then those are seated 1-6 or 1-7. Five automatic qualifiers, regardless of ranking). Winning your conference should mean something.

That being said,
I was just finally happy to see a National Championship game where we didn't have to watch an $EC team nor hear their propaganda shoved down our throats for 3+ hours.
2 years in a row.

Um...no. ND was 1st and goal on the 9 with 9 minutes down 2 scores. Nothing was decided until tOSU held ND and the FG clanged off the upright. Then it was pretty much decided. Had they scored there and were they successful on the 2-pt conversion, they would have been down 1 score with absolutely enough time to time the game up.
