Can we talk about the ND game now?

This ND team will be tough to figure out on ND. I am one who thinks that a backup who comes in during the heat of the moment is less nervous than one that has a week to think about how he'll need to score on every possession. I expect a lot of forced throws that we'll need to pounce on. Really need the offense to shine in this one. I am hopeful they can make the adjustment to real game speed relatively quickly. I'm hopeful that ND's experience against Navy leads them to play slower than they think they need to given our relative athleticism superiority to Navy's option game.

I came here to make this point exactly. It's one thing to be thrown in and have a limited scope of what you're realistically asked to do. It's a whole other argument when you're 'the guy' for a full week of prep and gameplan install. The game of football has seen many-a hero quickly turned goat when given the full reigns the week after.

Fortunately for him it's in familiar surroundings, but he'll be walking that proverbial tightrope with no net for the first time and against an aggressive front-7 and a veteran secondary known for baiting experienced QB's into pix.

Also, let's be honest. The young man was 3rd-string and not slated to play until Golston left.

And furthermore, who is TX this season offensively? A mess, that's who. What about UVA? Middle-o'-the-road ACC level with a dead man walking at HC, that's who. Forget who we've played, who have they played?

{Hey, you've all seen their boards. 'Bout time we started to poo-poo them a little just like they're doing us. ;)}

Think CPJ is calling Navy this week?

I think he's been scheming for BVG for years now and would just run some stuff by what Ken has done to them.

Hope when we run the score up people know we're doing it to Uncle Rico specifically.

Go listen to the CPJ press conference thread. He talks about BVG. Funny stuff.

I think he was asked about whether he was calling Navy this wee at the press conference. His answer was stte of "Those guys all played for me or coached for me; what are they going to tell me? I've got the tape."

Tulane last year beat a pretty good Houston team that beat Pittsburg in the Armed forces bowl. Realize can't compare since that was last year but Houston took out Louisville Saturday. Point is Tulane pretty much same team as last year and has some good athletes and not really the patsy ND wants to think them to be. But I hope the team thinks we have played no one but patsies.

Go Jackets!!! SWARM 'Em!!! TWHG!!!!

From his comments at the press conference, it seems like CPJ is downplaying having any sort of rivalry or whatever with BVG. He is probably trying to avoid giving them locker room material. I'd say the cat left that bag a long time ago - the story has been out there for a very long time.

Man! just reading some of these comments sound like Tech is just going to have a cakewalk! Trust me, I believe we can win,but it is going to be extra tough in South Bend. The ND players didn't just get off the boat, and the Tech D has always had problems with a mobile QB. I'll be there in sec. 117 and hope to see the same results we had in 2007 , but right now it's a toss up.

It's not like he was that great either. Aside from the 39 yard pass, he was 7-11 (ok that is good) for a mere 53 yards.

Kizer's first possession? 5 plays, 26 yards, punt. Kizer was 2-3 for 9 yards.

Second possession? 0-1 with a sack.

Third possession? He went 1-3 for 8 yards to start, then ran 4 yards fora first down. After that he was pretty solid - 4-4 for 68 yards.

It was a good story, but he's made a total of three passes against UVA. Definitely too small of a sample size to predict anything.

Navy's offense -- the actual Navy offense -- plus GT's defense could probably beat Notre Dame 3 games out of 5.

He looked jittery as hell to me. Typical over-hyped backup scenario with the dramatic win on a long pass, but it wasn't a great play. Desperate, overwhelmed kid threw up a prayer and it worked out.

Right now it is hard for me to say we are an underdog to anybody, even OSU. IMHO that would be an outstanding matchup. Lots of pressure to score for both teams. Better roster vs better scheme and good roster. With that said, even though I feel we are a favorite in the upcoming game, all sorts of things could happen and tend to happen in CFB. We will need to play well enough to overcome the factors that are sure to be against us. It will still take a lot of character to win this thing. They aren't going to hand it to us.

If I like anything about the match up, it is this: our complete OL and QB have played huge games, very recently, in hostile environments and come through. They know what it is like. It won't be new for them. In my experience, it has usually been OL and QB who pressure packed, hostile environments affect the most. False starts at the worst time, bad decisions at QB, rushed throws etc are the norm when a team falters on the road. The guys who catch and run the ball are least affected. That is a check in our win column.

Either way, I'll be there to watch!

Get ready for some wet weather. Strong storms up here Friday and early Saturday.

I love ground and pound the most so I like this weather. Long death marches will be challenging with a slippery ball. But ND will have the same problem.

@GTNavyNuke I was with you last week about wanting ND to lose but not this week on puke.

The new reality is that getting into the playoffs requires record and reputation (of conference). Our SOS is hard enough that a 1 loss season ACC championship should get us into the playoffs.

However, if the ACC is seen as week, ooc so far, then we're easily the 1st guys out, other things equal. They might even put a 2loss sec champ in ahead of us.

Oh, and fwiw, Northwestern is one word: NU not NW.

As we talked about in chat, we need to win all our games including the ACCCG to get in probably. Lose one and we are out. Since we have four regular season top 11 teams to play and another in the ACCCG, that is more than enough SOS.

But every game is an elimination game for us I think. JHowell has ACC in fourth on their power rankings .... http://www.jhowell.net/cf/cf2015.htm ...... but so much of this is an "eyeball" test. We will look too good if we win out. I don't think we will, but I sure am hoping. (~2.3% chance to win the next 10 .... http://atomicfootball.com/archive/teams/tm_9.html )

Plus, I hate Fluke after last year more than any other ACC team. So I'll root for NW .... I have a few good friends who went there and they have a damn good engineering school. (y)
