Can we talk about the ND game now?

We're gonna stuff their run game imo, nice that their new qb is not much of a run threat apparently. new qb is going to feel the pressure and make some dumb mistakes hopefully!

Also, we need to start talking about Duke. After all what we talk about has a big impact on the game being played, and we won big this week by talking about the following game so shouldn't we keep up the trend?

Agree, if ND plays like they did yesterday, we win easy. But playing in South Bend I expect to see a different team. The new QB takes away one of our strengths which is film study. But he was the back up QB for a reason.

That being said, I have circled the Fluke game as the payback game of the year. I want to see us dismember fluke so that they couldn't beat an Agnes Scott team.

O'Leary's wounds were self-inflicted.

Kind of. It was political correctness that got him. The false stuff he put on his resume had absolutely nothing to do with his capabilities for the job he was hired for. I think there must have been a back room move to take him out and get someone that another faction of the NDAA wanted. I really wish O'Leary had stayed with us. But it is what it is.

I am not an ND fan and never will be. I will not be on chat since I may express myself too clearly.

I expect a very tough game. I will be happy if we crush them, but I don't expect it. I hope our guys are grown up enough to handle a couple wide margin wins, and news of QBs and RBs injured, without getting over confident.
I think we have a good mix of veterans who will keep the younguns grounded. Golden and Gotsis on D and JT, Skov and whole OL on O. If that's not enough, you can bet CPJ and Roof will have plenty to say about it, too.

I'll be 8 hours away in Minnessoooota. Then the next week in Ohio for fluke. I had been planning to go the the fluke game ....... back to the discussion of our game after this week:

I hope Fluke will lose by 35 to NW. And take many many body blows. After Tulane and NC Central, the fluke plays a real team. On the other hand, NW beat a big boy team in Stanford which I appreciated.

So hopefully, NW can be the picador and we can be the matador. Just gotta take care of the first big boy team we face this week

This ND team will be tough to figure out on ND. I am one who thinks that a backup who comes in during the heat of the moment is less nervous than one that has a week to think about how he'll need to score on every possession. I expect a lot of forced throws that we'll need to pounce on. Really need the offense to shine in this one. I am hopeful they can make the adjustment to real game speed relatively quickly. I'm hopeful that ND's experience against Navy leads them to play slower than they think they need to given our relative athleticism superiority to Navy's option game.

Here's top hoping we empty the bench, but realistically that's unlikely, but possible. Don't think ND will be able to run us off the field, but definitely think we can do it to them.

I'll predict GT: 38-20 in victory.

If ND overcomes several obstacles and we bring our C game: ND 27- GT 24. I just don't expect that to happen.

We have a better D line and O line than last year. We played against top D teams last year. VT, Clemson. They held us under 30, but VT was early, Clemson is the only team to hold us down where we needed 2 Pick six to reach 27. But since they only had 6, I think we were more conservative. We can throw the ball, but when we are ahead and can grind it out eating up clock, this seems to be CPJ preferred way to end games. Would MISS State be closest to a team with good O and D that we played last year after the two game losses? Comparable to ND?

Yeah I was trying to think of comparables for ND and couldn't come up with many...in all honesty they feel like UVA right now with the injuries and such, but strong talent on the lines, which coincidentally they were pretty much tied with for 59:48.

My first sentence was supposed to say something along those lines...it's tough to think of a comparison to the current mold of ND.

Probably something resembling this:

http://www.onefootdown.com/2014/11/5/7152643/ofd-films-the-irish-face-the-option

Game film review by Irish of BVG's defense against the option from last year. Study up, boys!

Great post. BVG apparently used two different formations against Navy last year, a 4-4 and 3-5. Both put an 8th man in the box, apparently daring you to throw, but each also has an apparent counter in the run game, as the link discusses.

As we know, option plays aim for a man advantage by reading a defender rather than blocking him. BVG apparently tried to get this guy back by adding an extra man in the box schematically rather than play by play basis.

I expect that CPJ appreciates the tape from this game. In another thread, I posted:
...
Last year, Navy scored 39, 2 TDs and FG in 5 1st half drives, 3 TDs in 7 2nd half drives: 3.18 ppd.

I reckon we'll be closer to 3.3 ppd, maybe more. The game will test us on both sides, but we should be fine.

The 3.18 ppd for Navy was a bad wag on 38 pts in 12 drives (ignoring 2pt conversion) and should be 3.17.

Regardless, ND lines up against us like they did v Navy, we should be able to kill them in the passing game. The BBack wheel route should be wide open.

@GTNavyNuke I was with you last week about wanting ND to lose but not this week on puke.

The new reality is that getting into the playoffs requires record and reputation (of conference). Our SOS is hard enough that a 1 loss season ACC championship should get us into the playoffs.

However, if the ACC is seen as week, ooc so far, then we're easily the 1st guys out, other things equal. They might even put a 2loss sec champ in ahead of us.

Oh, and fwiw, Northwestern is one word: NU not NW.
