This coaching staff inherited over 20 offensive linemen, and you're saying that none of those players could be coached up by this coaching staff? These guys came from a wide variety of backgrounds, and not a single one was recruited for their "diving ability". But you think 5 true freshmen linemen are going to swoop in and start making a difference in D1 football? Seriously? 18 year old offensive linemen who haven't even been in a college strength training program? If the conversion from 3O to spread is so "insurmountable" as some people say, how big is the transition from high school to D1 ACC football for an offensive lineman? Have you ever even played football before? Any sport? So when it doesn't happen, is next year's excuse going to be "the O-line is really young, but wait 2 more years, 3 more years, 4 more years?"

20 OL. In 11 years of cpj we NEVER had 20 OL on scholarship. If u want to count walkons then shrugg.

We have thin numbers on ship as it is. And take a look at the offer lists of the ones we do have. Its not great. We have trouble on the ol there is no escaping it.

And to answer your question. That transition from high school to ncaa as an ol is a huge one. Hence why true freshman starting is not the norm. This is why this is such a disaster.

yep, Mike Maye was a 3-4 star OL for a top program coming in and has not played. So the idea that TRUE FR are going to help much is ludicrous.

Really. His only offer other than us was south Alabama according to 24/7. So clearly this says alot. According to rivals he was an all fcs offer list and low level fbs.

We. Have. No. Ol. Talent

Offense:

1. Graham has a cannon. Absolutely the strongest arm of the 3 QBs we've seen. Reading defenses and decision making will improve. He's a freshman and Temple was the most playing time he's ever gotten. I think with more experience he could be pretty good.

2. Oliver is the best athlete on the team and should still receive touches.

3. WRs looked very good. Brown, Camp, Carter.

Defense:

1. In the first 3 games, Temple averaged 347 passing yards per game with 11 TDs. GT held them to 127 yards in the air, no TDs, and an INT. DBs did a great job not allowing any big plays and help them to an average of 5.7 yards per passing attempt. Granted Temple didn't have to pass as much and had success running the ball.

2. Charlie Thomas

3. No seniors started on defense. 2 Fr, 5 So, 4 Jr.

How many OL do we have on scholarship? I remember reading (AJC, FWIW) that we had about 13.

We lost three from last year and only added Southers. We've also lost Jahaziel to injury. We're down - way down.

It was still nearly 2ppd (1.89, 17/9) which is ave against a pwr 5 off.

Don't get me wrong. It is the ave D we were hoping to pair with CPJ's O, but it's not yet a good D.
Small thing - I counted 11 drives total, with only 1 end of half drive (end of game). So 10 total. 1.7 pt/drive. Still arrived at the same conclusion as you.

As I've said before, when calculating my PPDvsPwr5, I don't count drives that end in safeties or end of half/game. So, for comparison purposes, I didn't count those possessions either. The rationale is that safeties typically belong as much if not more to the special teams as to the D.

I really like our defense, although obviously many areas could be better. There is always room for improvement. But against FBS teams, our offense is scoring about 9 points a game. Our defense is forced to spend a lot of time on the field.

Our offense just needs to come up with a handful of plays we can execute properly and just run them over and over.

For the first time this year I saw glimpses of a pass game. Receivers really open, not the usual throw it to a covered man and hope our man is the tallest or strongest and catches it. I saw some good throws. I saw some good play calls even if we didn't quite make the play. As has been noted dozens of time, it is the combination of poor offensive line play with inexperienced quarterbacks which is killing us. I don't see how the line can suddenly get better, but every game the QBs play will help them get good in time.

How about hitting open receivers. We have not shown the ability to beat any team with any of our QB's so far by throwing the ball. Maybe it will happen at some point but so far JG is the most likely.

Are you sure?

Probably. When we got down 3 scores and could not stop the run Temple went to the run the clock out running the ball and we could not stop it. If the game was closer Temple would have opened up more and scored more. IMO our inability to stop the run would have beat us regardless of those turnovers. I liked what I saw from Graham but he played more than a half and got us no scores. Without the turnovers Oliver would likely have gotten us two scores in less than a half. We still need Oliver in the red zone because we cannot block well enough for Graham or Johnson.

I didn't recall that you did that with safeties in your analysis. That's a fair take. Neither way is perfect, obviously.

Since it's the bright spots thread - we haven't had a receiver like Brown on the roster in a long time. He gets open and he catches. Very nice find late in the recruiting game.

I am hopeful that we have another Kelly Campbell in this kid.
