Both are highly regarded academically, both are the little brother in their states, and both have underachieving basketball programs. Need more?
Nothing to do about our respective football programs and traditions. As CGC so aptly embraces, Georgia Tech is the one unique program in college football. Believe it.

And both have baseball teams that usually rank numerically above either football or basketball. But thats where the academics have been a more positive selling point in the past.

Who will be on the flats first: Brent Key, or Demetris Robertson?

Or Elvis?

We really should hear today, shouldn't we, whether Key is coming? Either that or there is a bidding war?

It took most of a week to hear about Patanaude. Since this Friday should be the restart of recruiting, I would think by then. It seems like all the assistant coaching announcements take a while longer than these threads think they would.

There is one elite team in the ACC right now. Maybe that will change. But not a lot of other teams that draw the national audience. Hope ND gets forced into playing real football all year as part of the ACC. That would help.

I'm just looking forward to better baseball coverage with the new ACC Network.

Sorry to dissemble, but shouldn't the Key announcement (tic) been made today?

ND is going to have to get left out of the playoffs a time or two before they will ever even think about joining a conference. If they had been in the ACC this season, then they likely lose to Clemson and never even get a sniff at the playoffs, so where’s their incentive?

PS. Any word on Key yet?

This is a line in story over in the Athletic. I popped over there when I heard about the dwag coaches leaving. This was about Pitman going to AL.

Alabama, however, does have an opening for an offensive line coach, after Brent Key left for his alma mater Georgia Tech. If Alabama came for him, Smart would presumably do everything he could to hold on.

Thanks for posting this. After hearing that the mutts lost their OC to Tennessee, I was expecting to hear that Key was going to UGA.

Brent Key is not coming to GT...

...in the next hour. Chill folks. GT takes forever to do background checks and take care of administrative issues with hirings.

Not only stuff like background checks, but also negotiations over other important matters such as terms of the contract, salary, incentives, title, and position description, etc.

Mr. Key will take the total package that is offered under due consideration, get it all in writing, and then decide whether to accept or reject.

One possible key factor would be whether Alabama is willing to make a counteroffer to him. We cannot rule this out.

I just checked the 1990 roster, and there are a few seniors on there, some of who contributed big time, but the majority of the players that made up the team that year were not recruited by Curry.

Seniors, redshirt Seniors, and redshirt Juniors. Here are most of them: Scott Aldredge, Chris Allen, Thomas Balkcom, Doug Allvine, Billy Chubbs, Tom Covington, Orlon Cox, Tom Crymes, T.J. Edwards, Russell Freeman, Jim Gallagher, Tom Gariety, Jerry Gilchrist, Keith Holmes, Mark Hutto, Daryl Jenkins, Jim Lavin, Carl Lawson, Greg Lester, James Merrit, Mike Mooney, Terry Pettis, Joe Siffri, David Stegall, Chris Simmons, and Calvin Tiggle.

Correction: UGA did not “lose” their OC to Tennessee. Tennessee made a counteroffer to Chaney, and UGA made the decision not to retain him with a better counteroffer to Tennessee’s counteroffer.

Pretty sure Joe Siffri and Jim Lavin (and maybe Mike Mooney) were JuCo transfers and thus Ross's recruits.

No correction necessary. Chaney is going to Tennessee, hence UGA doesn’t have him any longer.

One more possibility I would like to add regarding Brent Key: other schools might have contacted his agent to make offers for Key’s services.
