Nah, this is the SEC scheduling approach...Duke prefers to play 2 FCS teams.

Ken wrote an article last week about the scheduling of this game. Actually, Bowling Green didn't want to play this game even for the money. Notre Dame asked GT to move the 2019 home game with ND to 2020 so they could play Michigan this year and next. GT had a 2018 and 2019 home-and-home with Auburn agreed to. Notre Dame agreed to host Bowling Green in South Bend if BG would play GT this year to allow the Notre Dame - Michigan series. Bowling Green agreed to play GT for a chance to take the team to South Bend.

I have been a long-suffering, but absolutely loyal, Tech fan since 1971 and I will always be one. That loyalty doesn’t mean I have to blindly parrot an optimistic slant.

If all it took to turn the offense around was an increase in CPJ’s personal interaction with them last week, I wonder why that didn’t happen sooner. I think that the poor play against USF, Pitt and Clemson had a little to do with the caliber of our competition. Alcorn State and Bowling Green are not on our level. When I look at the talent, schemes and execution of the other teams on our schedule, I just have my doubts.

When the Bowling Green QB passes for more than 300 yards with no running game, I worry what the better QBs we will see from here on out can do. Our running game ran like clockwork against Bowling Green, but BG didn’t have the talent to defeat blocks, recover and blow up the mesh or the pitch. Going forward, will TM get time to throw? Can we afford to miss a turn? Will the DL get any penetration?

When I see a repeat of the good things we saw against Bowling Green against a higher level of competition, I will have hope that we have turned the corner and are moving toward the light. I just haven’t seen it yet. I hope I do.

Also, with respect to complaints about scheduling: If I understand the article correctly, if it hadn't been for the requests from ND and the ACC to arrange the ND-Michigan series GT would have played Auburn this year and next year. GT's stated goal is to play: 8 conference games, the mutt game, one additional P5 team, one G5 team, and one FCS team. The years in which that hasn't happened have been because of outside scheduling issues: Potential 9 conference games for the ACC causing GT to intentionally not schedule another P5, potential SEC 9 conference games causing SEC teams to cancel home-home series with GT, Notre Dame/ACC petitioning GT to move the ND game with only 2 years notice. For the most part years with 2 FCS or 2 G5 teams have not been because anyone at GT was trying to lessen the schedule.

If @Longestday had not been run off of the forum, you could watch his analysis and see if the improvement on offense was simply because of the level of competition or if there was better execution. Did we have two linemen blocking the same defensive lineman again? Were there any obvious missed assignments? I know from a casual eye, the pitches looked much better. I don't remember the A-Back having to reach out/down to barely catch the pitch. Was that because of the pitch relationship being better?

Fair enough. You’re right that we have done what we needed to against two teams who are likely the least capable of the games we have played thus far. The Pitt and USF losses hurt a lot, no argument here. I do think you could see a simplified game strategy but it’s hard to tell if that was be design or due to opponent. In fairness, the players when asked did not indicate the offense changed much if anything.

I think my hope comes from the guys seeing the rewards of execution and hoping they focus on the details this week in game prep. We will know soon enough, Friday is coming fast.

I just went to his YouTube channel and his last video was last year. Probably when he let gtswarm. It was WF. Looks like he was doing the videos for us and has since stopped.
