Allard has been at AAA the last 2 years. He has potential, but we have higher ranked prospects with more potential. He was also blocking Anderson from being called up to AAA. I would have liked to package him with a few other prospects to get Grienke, but I don't necessarily hate the move.

Yes, Allard had two starts in Atlanta last year. Been back and forth from AAA and AA. The Braves view AA as a high league. They will promote from there. They sent Wilson and Wright down to AAA, which has blocked these other guys.

Braves did the job. Just a solid lineup. Nats are down to 3 "top 3" starters... & some minor league talent in 4th 5th slot.

Tomorrow it'll be 0-0 at 1st pitch. Pretty BIG game to settle this series. I like Nats chances. Braves young pitchers have to prove they can still perform deep into an MLB summer.

No doubt, you have the better starters. Like you said, Soroka & Fried haven’t had the grind on this level. Fried has almost reached his all-time high in innings, after the next couple of starts he will be right on that 125. Soroka is just over 100 and his high is 150. We have to count on Keuchel and Tehran, pray for Folty or Gausman or a miracle by 4 pm tomorrow.

I wouldn’t want to be Alex or Rizzo. Prices too high.

Exactly. It isn’t going to happen. Need. Team need dictates. Remember when Smoltz said warming up and pitching every other night to get 50 saves was more taxing on his elbow than 30-35 starts per year. We have Newk. for relief.

It’s not stupid. They said at the beginning of the year that he will be on an innings limit this year. If we were to get another starter by trade he is the obvious candidate to go to the pen to cut his innings back. Gausman is the only other option and his stuff isn’t ideal for the pen.

In order to acquire Martin the Atlanta Braves had to part with their 10th best prospect according to MLB Pipeline in Kolby Allard. Remember, after this season, the Braves would need to pony up over 2m. to resign him. I’m not seeing them put that much into a reliever who will be 34 yo.

What's the going rate for relievers? That doesn't seem like a lot to get/keep a guy you're probably gonna want/need to replace via trade all over again at next year's deadline if'n you let him go.

It’s strange to me too. I wish someone could explain why the Braves budgeted approx. 19m. to the Bullpen(which has averaged 8 players of your 25 man roster). That’s 1/3 of your active MLB Team, yet the other 2/3 are being paid roughly 112m.
Further complicating the rationale is Atlanta forked out 15m. of that on Vizcaino (traded, injured)and O’Day(hasn’t pitched at all). So they only had 4m. left for 1/3 of the actual roster. Probably still paying Bruce Sutter or ?, although that’s another story not included. I’ve heard the G.M, say, it’s the most unpredictable part of the team. To me, it seems undervalued. They seem to want to keep their relievers at 550 thousand per year, each. A front line closer could cost 20 times that average or more on average.

Bruce Sutter will be paid until 2021 and i think he gets 1.12 million a year
