Minnesota better get the defense ready... These Tech Men are playing a farewell game for a HOF coach and staff they love.... Ging to try and hang fifty on you all while running for 400 yards!!
I wouldn't be surprised if the game becomes a shootout. At the same time, the Gophers held Ohio State to 92 total yards rushing in Columbus before the DC change, and Wisconsin's RB Taylor (1989 yards rushing for the year, ~170/g) was held to 120 in Madison last week in our route. Run "D" is our strength, though I'm not sure how we will fare against the triple option.

What changed for Minnesota that their back of the season was significantly improved compared to the first half? I have many Maryland alums in my family and seeing them wax you early in the year was a pretty bad result but it seems y’all somewhat righted the ship
The DC was fired after the Illinois game. That was after game 9. Versus Purdue (who smoked Ohio State), N'western (Big Ten West Champs), and Wisconsin (Big Ten Pre-Season Champ favorite), we held them to 10, 14, 15, respectively.

As for the Maryland game, a Minnesota player died a few days before the game, and it definitely showed. Was also the first road game and Big Ten game. Not trying to make excuses, but it was clear the team was not "there". To be fair as well, Maryland gives Minnesota fits the way we give Penn State fits. Sometimes it's about match-ups.

I can't stand Fleck and his stupid car salesman tactics, and don't get me started on the stupid "row the boat" oar on the helmets that looks like a Maxi-pad.

Agreed, GT got shafted, but at least you're not playing a directional school.

Hard to name strengths & weaknesses, as the team has been as bi-polar as the weather. The offense has been surprisingly good, and the defense has been stout against the run. The real issue is the injury bug. Our RB is 3rd string, for example, but still sitting at 900+ yards in 7(?) games. The passing game was ranked 100+ last season, but has been averaging mostly first down gains all season thusfar. The "D" was supposed to keep us in games, but was awful until a month ago when the DC was fired. Run game wise, we are tough. Against the pass we have been suspect, though healthy as of late. I'm not sure how we will handle your triple option, but with a month to prepare it could be interesting. Specials teams have been great, and we have the 4th(?) fewest penalties in the country. Could be a deciding factor. Again, it depends on which Minnesota team shows up. 52% of our roster are freshman (true/redshirt), including roughly 10-11 starters on both sides of the ball combined.

Detroit should not be hosting a bowl. It's a disrespect to any Power-5 team. You certainly have more of a gripe than us though.

We are too, though you have more reason.

Pretty mellow, Gopher Guy. I like your approach and insights. Great fan.
Thanks for coming over and sharing. I hope our fans on your board are are cordial and knowledgeable.
THWG!

The thing I’m looking forward to most in this game (aside from CPJs last send out) is watching Rashad Bateman. He’s from my small hometown of about 20k. How is his season going? I’m afraid I haven’t watched any Gopher football.
Bateman is a BEAST. Last I saw he was 11th in Big Ten reception yardage, before last week. And many of his passes were lateral. I think we need to utilize his speed and agility. He will break U of M records, should he stay 4 years.

Well, the way the Gophers handled the Badgers , we might have our hands full - from a Tech and Badger fan.
Gross... the Sconnies wear the same colors as your Georgia rivals and sport that stupid Cheesehead "G".

Very surprising to me that GT and Minnesota have never played each other. My question is how is PJ Fleck doing? Still have that magic and you are building or is the B10 a harder nut to crack than the MAC?

Also I've heard some good things about your LBs. Care to elaborate?
Fleck is a salesman, but he also seems to have focus. Don't be surprised if Minnesota becomes a national name. LB's aren't as good as they should be, but now that the DC has changed (three games ago) they have been dominating. Again, not sure how they will fair versus your triple option. There's a month to prepare though.

This is the only positive, that we are getting a team that has earned respect
Earning, not earned. Some horrible losses mixed in with some respectable wins. Growing pains.

I think most on here would be comfortable with Canada annexing Minnesota if it got us out of the Quick Lane Bowl. Your thoughts?

Is this the biggest power move in your school's history?
National Titles:
Minnesota 7,
Georgia Tech 4.

Would you like to switch conferences?
No, but you should.

Nice state u guys have. Came up from Texas and worked on energy projects that crossed your state. We worked thru winter on frozen wetlands and saved $$$$.
Bears up north in bemidji (sic), massive corn farms, huge deer in drainage ditches, giant winter beets but didnt see many high school friday night lights.

Curious
From where do most of your players come?

Ps Good luck in your next game after we play.

Let me start off by saying, no trolling. Us Minnesotans know as little about Georgia Tech as most of you presumably know about us. We're stuck in this ridiculous Detroit toilet bowl together, and we both hate our rivals in red & black and that stupid "G" on the side of the helmet. At least we both sport gold and are facing a Power-5 team.

That being said, let's talk football. I think this is a good match-up of schools that are far better than our records reflect.
Welcome don't know much about your team. Happy to play Y'all just not happy where we have to play.

Hockey is played on Saturdays. ;-)

Lineman come from outstate, positionals from private high schools in the metro.
Field hockey? Kidding, I know on ice. Love the game. Was in Atlanta just out of GT when the Flames first came into the NHL. Long ago. Fans cheered the first time they iced the puck. Hilarious but they soon learned.

Didn’t the Minnesota Vikings play in your stadium while they were fixing or rebuilding the Metrodome? The best game I ever saw (not in person) was played in the Metrodome. 1998 NFC Championship game between the 15-1 Vikings and the 14-2 Falcons. Falcons pulled a huge upset.

Welcome! I live in Michigan and have been here a while. Your PJ Fleck comment was dead on! I thought he was very clownish while at WMU. Hope to see a good turn out from both sides in Detroit! Oh, I hate the **** out of that school in Ann Arbor too!!! I’ll try to swing through there on my way to the game and steal the jug for you if I can. Lol

The Atlanta Flames! Yes, I am aware. The cheering of the icing? Hahah, that's like non-tech savvy people thinking CD-Rom drives were cup holders. Love it!

"I know Minnesota finished this season strong," Coach Paul Johnson said. "I didn't get to see a lot of their games, so I don't know a whole lot about them. But I did get to watch them when they waxed Wisconsin. I know they're very formidable. They've got a good team. It's going to be a challenge for us. I'm looking forward to it."
