Equating Tech football with Vandy, Duke, Army and Navy may be the most insulting thing I have ever seen a “fan” post. When did we turn into a program that sucks and has no upside? There are plenty of kids who are talented and who can pass their courses for us to be successful. We gave up when we hired CPJ because we were recruiting well under Chan. To Paul’s credit he could win without worrying much about recruiting but I bet we would have done just as well if not better had we hired Cutcliffe instead and focused on recruiting.

I was right there with you all the way. And then you mentioned that pompous conceited ******* Cutcliffe. 🤣

CPJ won 11 games, an Orange Bowl and beat UGA the year before 2015. He won 9 games and beat UGA the year after 2015. That is what gets you latitude for a 3 win season. Collins just needs to start winning.
And he did it in his sixth season after walking into a program that had 8 NFL draft choices including2 first rounders. Collins has had 2 seasons after walking into a program that had 2 NFL position players drafted--and Collins recruited 1 of those as a grad transfer. Some people don't want to give him time.

And I'm tired of the Johnson myth. He won 74% of his games his first 2 years with Gailey's recruits. He won 54% his last 9 years, and was over .500 FBS because of 10 FCS wins in those 9 years. He left the program in worse shape than he found it when he walked off. I thank him for walking off so that we didn't have to pay a buyout, but it doesn't change the fact that the program was in worse shape in 2019 than it was in 2008. All people like you have to talk about with Johnson is 2014 as your post shows. What about all those other years that produced that .500 FBS record?

Pretty much everyone in the know considers him an extremely good coach. Look where he stacks up historically along GT coaches. Its pretty darn good.

In all seriousness CGC could have done himself so much better if he had just embraced what CPJ built in his statements instead of the weird passive aggressive way he referenced what he walked into.

but it’s all over and behind us now. It’s not year 1 or year 1B, it’s year 3 - this year is an inflection point. Win games and show progress. It’s time to figure out where we are heading.

Well that's the 3 million dollar question isn't it. Which is better - a hall of fame coach with mediocre talent but a unique scheme or an up and coming coach with massively better talent and a common scheme. We will eventually find out. We are already 2 for 2 on recruiting what I would consider 'enough' talent (top 25), and we are well on our way in year 3 recruiting. In just 2 recruiting cycles, 247 says our composite talent on our roster has gone from 50th to 35. After this recruiting cycle we will be somewhere around 27th. If you are a top 25 recruiting team every year, you better win 8 games. Doesn't happen overnight, but we are accumulating the talent to do it. Now we have to do it.
Who said Collins is an "up and coming" coach? And as far as equating Tech to Army or Navy, then obviously you have not been paying attention to them, particularly Army the last few years. (I still think Johnson started sliding at Tech when Monken went to Southern. He never had another assistant with that kind of moxie.

We’ll have more talent than 7 teams on our schedule. Our ceiling is 9-3 (that’s why they call it best case scenario). Our realistic ceiling is 7-5. 5-7 is probably the most likely outcome. 3-9 would be a realistic floor. 2-10 would worst case. Basically if Sims goes down Week 1.

he hardly has any ****ing experience. There’s no way to define him as an established coach. I love the guy, and I hope he is successful, but he is still very new as far as being a head coach goes.

Yeah, that’s where I am with this too. I love the rebranding, especially the 404 emphasis, and I love the can-do attitude about recruiting. And I can’t wait to start winning again.

But the constant swipes at a previous coach, who was one of Tech’s best historically, strikes me as a little low class. I also can’t remember that ever happening in the past. Sure, some fans will do that, but this feels institutionalized from the top down.

It happened with Coach Gailey as well. I didn't like it then and don't like it now with CPJ. I don't understand why some can't let go of the past. I can't tired of reading about guys years after they have left. They have moved on but like jilted lovers, some of us cannot do this. It's puzzling to say the least. I get weary of the continual reference to things that no longer matter - an Orange Bowl game, an ACC championship game against Wake, a loss to Citadel, etc.

Pastner did it a lot too - constantly reminding everyone of what a major rebuild he was in. Look dude - we all know it. It’s okay, you have a long contract. Just focus on yourself.

Personally if you feel he’s taken swipes at PJ that’s all on you. He hasn’t, you just listen with that chip on your shoulder. He has said we needed different players and he wants a new culture. Every coach does that when they take over a program.

I like both guys. But I don’t know how anybody trying to take a fair listen would conclude Collins hasn’t taken swipes.

Tell me one

I could probably list 20. From stating that previously former players weren't as welcomed back on campus, to not allowing scouts and others to visit practice, to repeating himself about 100 times what a tremendous rebuild they're in.

The problem is that the fans do have an effect on the program, and people today seem to have lost any kind of respect for humility or self-accountability. There’s no point in admitting mistakes when it will just be met with “Did you hear that? Pastner screwed up! He even admitted it! This shows that he’s a no-talent hack who should be fired immediately!”

I finished my task list early today and spent a few minutes looking at our 2021 schedule and made best/worst/likely cases for each game. First, you have to understand that I want us to win them all, so don't jump on me for not being a loyal fan. So, here goes my prediction for the season.

The Best Case I see is five wins, four that could go either way (UNC@MBS, @UVA, VT, @Miami), and three almost certain losses (@Clemson, @ND, uga).
The Worst Case is two wins to open the season, a toss up game @Duke, and nine losses. This would be ugly at times.
The Likely Case from my view is four wins, a couple of toss ups at home (Pitt and VT), and six losses.

If I am correct, the writers estimate might be pretty close. The likelihood of us beating UNC early in the season is pretty low. We have played some really ugly games in Charlottesville, so that is not a likely win, and Miami will have discovered a QB by November. Clemson, ND and uga are not going to be fun games this year.

My best case could be 7-5 if we split the toss up games and hold service elsewhere. That would get us into a lowish bowl game and create real optimism about 2022. That said, it would foolish to call your bookie with my best case scenario as a betting plan.
This is pretty much how I see it but Virginia Tech is in so much turmoil, UVA is up and down, Pitt is beatable on a good day so I can understand people riled up at the 5 wins as a best case scenario. That said, I am holding to a season prediction of 4 wins. It is outrageous that Clemson does not play Notre Dame, UNC, or Miami and we are playing all three along with Virginia Tech and UVA at the house of horrors aka Scott Stadium. Think about this. After playing UGA in the first game, Clemson's most challenging game just might be Pitt. They have so many cupcakes, its a wonder the whole team isn't made into the poster boy for the Diabetes Association.

“When you consider what I inherited” is a phrase that came out of his mouth in some form or fashion every time he gave an interview his first year. Sorry, that’s obsessive and I’ve never heard another coach do that. Ever.

I don't know why you would write out Miami. We just beat them the year before last when we were 3-9. They lost 3 games last year and 3 more they only won by a couple points against marginal teams. North Carolina last year lost to 2-6 Florida State and to 4-5 Virginia. They also only beat 5-5 Boston College by 4 points and 3-4 Wake Forest by 6 points. I don't see how anybody would just automatically write off those games as a loss in a best case scenario.
Because Miami being Miami, they have loads of talent on both sides of the ball...but then that was the case last year, the year before that, the year before that and so on. It is what they do.

You haven’t listened to very many coaches then. I’m pretty sure even Kirby complained that the cupboard was bare when he got to Athens.
