I'm the 'crazy guy', and again I say that I know that no coach will go without an agent. My gosh, is hyperbole so difficult to recognize these days? Do I hate agents...yes. They are parasites that appear to me to work for their own benefit more than the player's (see Freddie Freeman.) But the fact that you can't let that go says more about you than me! :)

What I find interesting is the concern about being a laughing stock. Why should we give a crap? Just win, baby.

So many Tech fans appear more tired of losing at the water cooler than they are tired of the team losing on the field.

With all due respect, I guess you’re the one who wrote that. I just commented on it.

In the long run, recruits won’t want to come to a laughingstock and fans won’t want to support a laughingstock. 🤷🏽‍♂️

It is not about worrying if we are a laughing stock or losing at the water cooler. You cannot win on the field if every good coach turns us down because we are stupid enough to propose that the coach fires their agent or accept a one year contract.

I did do some poking around to find data sources. I might be able to do more later, but Brian Fremeau (the FEI guy) keeps game splits on his site.

You can get to the drive data for the GT-Duke game at https://www.bcftoys.com/2022-ps-w06#286 and see how valuable (or negatively valuable) each drive was.

If you look at offensive drive efficiency, overall we're trending up. Defensive drive efficiency took a nosedive against Ole Miss but has been trending in the right direction too. Offensive points per drive hit a pothole against Ole Miss (we didn't really show up for that game), but is trending up--you could even see it as a step up from UCF to Pitt. Defensive yards per play was consistent in the non-OleMiss games but got better against Duke.

Overall, we're getting better each game, on offense and defense. Ole Miss was terrible, though.

I think if Pitt had had Israel Abanikanda our D performance would have been avbout the same as for Ole Miss and we would have lost the game. He's the best RB in the ACC and they are a much different team with him than without him. That makes me think the stats on trends in D performance may be off. Hard to tell, of course; the sample size is miniscule. We'll see against UVA.

Wait, did he get hurt or something during the game?

Yep, and went no-where...hence my comments above.

My recollection is that his replacement came in and did much better right away. My thought at the time was "maybe it isn't good that he left the game."
Yes, Abanikanda is not a good RB. You figured it out.

I have to knock wood again here and do an anti-jinx dance, but a big difference this year vs years past is that a bad running play tends to be 9 yards instead of a house call. We're moving in that direction through the air, too.

We've played some of the tougher teams on our schedule, did not show up against Ole Miss, and we're ranked much better on defense than we have been in years.

Mmmyeah, I don't think his "absence" taints the good performance vs PITT.
Didn't say that at all. It's part of the game, but its foolish to assume that possibly the best offensive player in the ACC wouldn't have made any difference in the game. On the flip side, they didn't have to deal with Charlie Thomas in the first half. They didn't do much on offense anyways so that may not have been that big of a deal.

It seems like some folks are indeed saying it, even if you aren't.

I have more questions then though. Are folks suggesting he was hurt? Or was Pitt doing us a favor by sitting the best offensive player in the league? Or maybe we just did a good job defensively maybe and whatever difference he would've made was muted?

They did have him (until they didn't) and he was ineffective. Davis was much more effective against us.
