I think the comment I read was that he'd be 20 by the time he made the league, if he hadn't reclass'd. I believe that statement is actually true.
That said, I do look sideways at people who graduate from HS when they're 19/20. Just odd to me. I also stand by my story on my geriatric classmate.

I doubt Summer is required, but if you don't want to take an APR hit your S-A's need to pass enough credit hours so that they would be eligible the following Fall if they returned. Summer can help with that, but most likely you need them to finish the Spring semester as well.

I don't really see a problem with kids graduating at 19. Usual age for graduation is 18 if you have a birthday from January-July so if you get held back one grade you would graduate at 19. Now graduating at 20 is definitely weird. CBG is a 20 year old freshmen for Tech which no one seems to pay mind to...I think the comment I read was that he'd be 20 by the time he made the league, if he hadn't reclass'd. You want them in the Summer to work out with the team and get everyone on the same page/same workout routine/same .... Academics for most kids get easier when you spread them out so putting some hours in the summer means you have less in the fall/spring - and the ability to double up if something bad happens. If he is going to play in March then he has to be in school in the spring and to avoid an APR type of penalty he has to finish with a "legit" academic record.
I am assuming this kid can academically walk and chew gum at the same time. If so he takes a light load in the summer, reasonable load in the fall and as light as possible in the spring. It can be done but it does take a little work and planning. And keeping the kid in Atlanta while he trains for the draft so he can finish up whatever academic stuff he still has on the table.

I guess you're right w.r.t. 19yo's. 20 is pushing it. I graduated at 17 'cause I'mma bawse (... and because my mom lied and told the school I'd already turned 5 when I was actually 4 in kindergarten

Keep in mind it is not at all unusual for parents to hold their kids back a year so they end up competing against kids who are mostly younger than them. That has been going on, and been increasing in frequency, for at least a decade.

I think Justin Moore was as well. He'll be 21 in February, according to his GT bio.
Very true and it's a trend I cant stand.
It's akin to how BYU and others benefit from the mission trip kids.
The numbers in bball make it less egregious but it just feels wrong(ish) nonetheless.
I can't see myself trying to game the system like that with my kids.
