A GT Football Fan expectation

LOL, wow this thread is so funny because none of you got my point from the beginning. We love our Tech Football for the rare 1990, 2009, 2014 seasons. For the 2015 Upset of FSU, for the 1980 tie/upset of Notre Dame. Buttttttt, in the last 60 years we have been a 7-5 team regardless of the coach. Carson, Fulcher, Pepper, Curry, Ross, O'Leary, Gailey, CPJ. The Dodd years are gone because college football changed in 1970 and I don't need to say what changed.

To me though what CPJ does that very few of those listed does is he can beat any one we play on any given Saturday. His offense is scary to the rest of football and if, if we get a more Tenutta like defense.....watch out.

The Roll Call is run by the Alumni Association, not the school administration. Complain to your local Alumni Club if you want them to share it.

Just skimming thru the thread so I may be missing context. Speaking from experience as an alumni network leadership team member, I agree that the Alumni Association is the holder of Roll Call donor lists. With that said, I don't think complaining to the local Alumni Network (not supposed to use "club" anymore for tax/non-profit reasons) is the answer. Regardless of whether I agree/disagree with the idea that local networks should be party to two-way communication with the athletic association, I don't think it's feasible any longer.

As of ~2 years ago the Alumni Association revoked local email listserv privileges. Apparently we, among others, were "spamming" others with reminders of game watches, networking events, etc. In other words, going forward all communication to our local alumni network is now submitted by the leadership team to the Alumni Association for them to send out on their defined cadence. I believe we can ask the Alumni Association for a dump of email/address/demographic data, however that seems to be the point of those who are saying "GT admin", or really the Alumni Association, are responsible for sharing/not sharing that data.

I didn't read through the entire thread either, but speaking in general terms, if we don't see some genuine progress in the next couple of years, competing for ACC champs, 8-9 wins and decent bowls, I'm really over the TO offense.

My expectations for each season are to do all of the following:

-Minimum of 6-7 wins
-Bowl game (There 41 of 'em. We should be one of the 82 teams to get an invite)
-One "good" win every year (one of mutts, Clemson, Miami, VPI, FSU or a UT/Notre Dame occasional foe)

I do not think these are unrealistic and I do get that there will be occasional stumbles like 2015 but to go 2 of 3 seasons missing these is a big red flag IMO. 2018 will be very telling as to the direction we're headed.

I am not even active in the local Alumni Network, corrected per your post. If people want changes in the way the Alumni Association operates they need to work within the Alumni Association to cause those changes. I wasn't saying that the local networks should work directly with the athletic association, I was saying that starting with the local networks to push the idea up of working more with the athletic association. If the local networks can't influence such change, then those people need to work on getting athletically minded people on the Alumni Association Board of Trustees. It would take a lot of time and a lot of work. However, if people posting that the Alumni Association don't want to do anything more than type on a forum that somebody else should do something, their attitudes say much more than their posts.

Also, many of those posts don't understand the difference between the administration, including Dr. Peterson, and the Alumni Association. If those people really do want change, they should at least understand who they should be directing their energy towards.

If people who want the Alumni Association to open up the donor lists are actually serious and actually willing to work towards that as a goal, I hope that my posts help to point them in the right direction. If people are just venting on a forum and not willing to put any effort towards causing change, then my posts really don't matter. Myself, I don't see this as a huge priority.

In my opinion the people who are passionate about athletics should be doing everything we can to assist the athletic department. It seems to me that it is too easy to complain about what everyone else is not doing while doing nothing ourselves. I am not trying to call any particular poster out. I looked at a football program from last year and did a rough count of Georgia Tech Athletic Association donors at the Alexander level or higher. The count was less than 1,000. I am simply trying to say that we should be doing everything that we can before blaming anyone else.

Yes, they did - since tech is so hard the state needs a course for lessor qualified in state students.

However its not a 2 way street. They will not allow us to ADD highly difficult courses of study which could take some top talent from the jewel in Athens.
We are pigoned holed into a research only school. By way Prez just hired new guy ( tech EE w 2 kids coming to tech) to head the $800,000,000.00 reasearch department.

What school w football like gt has that in their budget!! i think prez has a narrow path or we could see some research moved to other campuses.

USF will be a tough out the next 2 years and so will UCF the year after that. 3-1/2-2 OOC, and then win most home ACC games, lose most away ACC games, win 1 we shouldn't, drop 1 we shouldn't. Add in the occasional game against Notre Dame and yearly games against georgia (who, as much as it hurts to admit, are not a half bad football team).

I think you vastly overrate Miami. As far as VT goes, beating them the past two years would seem to put them in the same tier as Tech.

The same was said about the mutts under Richt. You got to prove it on the field, and he hasn't yet. Last year, but for Roof's atrocious defense, and a fluke catch at the end, Tech would have won.

You need to stand next to our players and their players to see the difference. After ND (15) game both teams came out of North end zone. Same year w sideline pass at miami game. Both had players who were taller and more athletic looking than our starters. our sr guys were muscled but 2 " shorter.

We have started taking taller players , so lets hope as they mature they look similar to miami.
The miami w r were as big and muscled as our d e (freeman).

lets hope COACH plus some older more athletic players have a great year.

I remember ND '15 pregame and seeing ND's LBs looking taller/bigger/more athletic than our WR. Their OL were on another level. Few teams have dwarfed us to that degree. Clemson last year was another and that comparison is not going to improve this year.
