The women received 2 preseason AP Top 25 poll votes and sit at #39. They have a pretty forgiving non-conf schedule and a 7-0 start isn't out of the realm of possibility.
Anyone know why Texas and OU are listed in the Big12 and not the SEC? Same for USC and UCLA vis a vis the PAC12/B1G. They didn’t join for football only, did they?

Yes - the AP website sucks on things like this. I think when our football team was ranked after Week 1 this year, they didn't even have our logo uploaded to their assets library.

Yeah. Let's post about things we are all interested in. I am really excited about the upcoming season. How many wins are you expecting / wishing for?
My guess is around 10-10 in ACC play and 7-8 non conference wins. Hope for more but not expecting more.

I had to look up asinine. It's an old navy word which means engine grease stains my white cracker jack's pantsuit. I doubt (any) leatherneck would be offended......

As far as I can tell, Mighty Mouse goes as deep into his bench as he can. You really have to work your way out of the rotation.

The roster is deeper this year than last, so my wild guess would be that we spread the minutes out more. I guess we’ll see

@leatherneckjacket and I go way back to the days of the HIVE Open board. He and I have butted heads before, so I have probably earned my reputation with him.

I know he's a loyal GT supporter, so we always have common ground. That said, I wholeheartedly disagree with him here.

So, how about a friendly little wager to see who is right?

Here is what I propose:

If Doryan does not average at least 10 mpg through the non-conference schedule
  • I'll make a $100 donation to The Tech Way on your behalf.
  • Add a note in my signature stating that LNJ was right!

If he does average double figures as I suspect:
  • Then you make the donation.
  • You add the note stating that Connell62 was right!
Deal? All in good fun and give us something to debate.

Feel free to make a counter offer. Barring any unforeseen injury.

Who cares about the non conference schedule? He might get a bunch of minutes playing against crappy teams. Make the same bet for conference games and the ACC tournament, which are the games that really matter. As stated above, ED averaged nearly 10 mins per game, but only logged 12 total minutes after January.

Also, the formula needs to be for all games where he is available to play, not just the games he logged minutes.

I'll do both... You determine the structure of the bet and I'm in. That's how confident I am here.

He will split minutes with DP, but I feel like he is likely a day 1 starter due to his shooting ability.

Either way, he's a key part of the rotation.

Bet is DO must average 10 mins per game for all conference and the ACC tournament games he is available to play.

$100 to charity of choice
Adding line in sig stating they were wrong and other person was right.

And, if I am wrong, adding a mea culpa in your sig for falsely insinuating that I would not acknowledge my mistake. (Once I do, of course).

I will add one caveat. If either Baye or O'Brien get hurt, then the bet is null. I will still give $100 to a charity if he averages 10 mins per game, but my assertion is based on those two players staying healthy and I would not be under any obligation to admit that I am wrong if they miss time.

Since all eyes are starting to follow this bet, are you suggesting non-conference games don’t count toward the average? If so, that seems a little arbitrary. Minutes are often determined by matchups and ruling out, what, 30% of our games reduces the number of matchup possibilities pretty dramatically.

I don’t know which of you is right, and I don’t have a dog in this fight, but it feels like the bar might be moving so that the plain sense meaning of the original argument might be in danger.

It is not arbitrary. Non conference should not count. Looking at ED, he averaged nearly 8 minutes per game in non conference games and a little over 4 minutes per game in ACC games (when including games he did not play). Most of those non conference games are against lesser competition. They are also at the beginning of the season where role players tend to see more time.

By the way, counting all games, ED averaged a little over 5 minutes per game, which is much less than the 9.5 minutes per game he averaged in games he played
