Assuming Cal hangs on to win, ACC teams traveling 2+ time zones will be 2-3.
Stanford won @ Cuse, lost @ Clemson
VT won @ Stanford
Cal lost @ FSU
Miami lost @ Cal

Something to keep an eye on as the season moves on and conferences shift around. Divisional play based on actual geography may have to come back in the picture. Wouldn’t surprise me at all if we end up with a system that’s basically the conferences circa 2000

Cal didn't blow it. There was very clear targeting that the replay officials said didn't exist. Cal should have had the ball with a first down with less than 2 minutes in the game. Instead, the ACC headquarters gave Miami an opportunity that they shouldn't have had. Two weeks in a row that the ACC headquarters has "helped" Miami win a game.

EDIT: How many more controversial calls from ACC headquarters to "assist" Miami to stay undefeated will it take before poll voters start discounting all of their wins? I can see the justifications at the end of the year. --Well Miami is undefeated, but they were given wins by the conference and those don't really count.--

Miami could have easily lost the last two weeks. I still think that game is much closer to a toss up than a probable loss. I don’t think there’s much of a margin between any of these ACC teams. Every conference game feels like a toss up at this point.

No, Collins didn’t let Patenaude run his offense. He handcuffed him with a “pro-style” offense. That was the point. I blame meddling donors for the lost 4 years as I do Collins.

I would rather play Miami than Cal at this point. Cal is one of those smart, consistent, few-mistake teams that we will struggle with all year.

Does Cam Ward’s side armed throwing bother anyone else? I know you can’t argue with success but those are the kinds of mechanics they used to try to clean up so you could make the pros. I do understand that the pros are going with more mobile QBs now and are less concerned about balls being batted down at the line of scrimmage.

Only problem with that is I feel our pass defense is the weakest aspect of our defense. Syracuse and Louisville both exploited us there. Miami’s offense is all about passing the ball. I think they are simply a bad matchup for us.

Anyone take note that the play Miami ran to win it was the same basic play that Lville deflected into our endzone for a touchdown?
They threw it slightly forward (and probably had linemen downfield).

SMU is for real. They are really good offensively. They could end up in the championship game.

Miami has looked to me like a flashy team that struggles to run the ball, although they run for I think 196 yards/game which isn’t bad, but 40th ranked, not great. At some point not controlling the ball on the ground catches up with you, but we’ll see.

You are not wrong.

However, we might do better scheming against one particular player and one particular style of offense.

Yes, Miami presents a difficult matchup problem for us. But my point was that Cal presents matchup problems for us with their whole team. And they, so far, don’t seem to swoon for long periods of time during games the way Miami does. Of course, if we get Miami’s A game where they give maximum effort for 4 quarters, while clicking on all cylinders, it could get real ugly.
