Braves outfielder Nick Markakis has opted out of playing this season, manager Brian Snitker announced to reporters this morning (Twitter link via Gabe Burns of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution). In doing so, he’ll forgo this year’s $4MM salary and the year of service time he’d have otherwise accrued.

How many people would pass on $4 million plus a year towards an MLB pension?
He isn’t just weighing this year against his income; he’s considering future income; still, it’s amazing

Just for fun... let's compare the Braves and Nationals AL East opponents. Since they play everyone in the NL East 10 times.. perhaps we can find that one team (Braves or Nationals) got SCREWED by the schedule makeup (isn't this a favorite GT fan pastime?) ;)

[Unless otherwise noted... even split of Home/Road games]
Nationals
6 x BAL
4 x TOR
4 x TB
3 x NYY (Home)
3 x BOS (Road)

Braves
6 x BOS
4 x NYY
4 x TB
3 x TOR (Home)
3 x BAL (Road)

I give the Nats the schedule advantage. All you have to look at is Baltimore, really. Plus... I 'think' it will be an advantage for Nationals to get NYY out of way opening weekend (at home). ...but I just assume pitching is ahead of hitting as we enter season and the Nationals will roll out Scherzer, Strasburg, Corbin v NYY.

Ok.. Braves friends (and true GT fans)... have at it. (y)
think CBS agrees with you.
2020 MLB schedule winners and losers: Mets, Angels have tough slates; good news for NL Central contenders

Loser: Braves
The Braves play in a hotly contested division that features three other likely contenders (the reigning champion Nationals, the Mets, and the Phillies). Also, thanks to a home-and-home against Boston, they'll play 14 of their 20 interleague games against the Yankees, Rays, and Red Sox (yes, the Red Sox still profile as a quality team despite the cynical trade of Mookie Betts). On top of all that, there's the fact that the Braves are one of seven teams this season that will play 20 games in 20 days. The Braves will endure this stretch to start the season -- they'll open on July 24 and not get an off day until Aug. 13.

well, that didn't last long. announcers were quite bad- never knew balls/strikes or outs
somebody hit a homer. I missed it
Ozuna had an RBI single off soroka
Pache was down for a long time (maybe sliding into second) he walked off unassisted with no visible limp
announcers were busy talking and missed it
