Talked to Coach Driscoll a few times during the game (was sitting right behind their Powerade coolers). I said Coach how about showing us some 3 point shooting and he said no need to since my guys can get to the rim whenever we want. In the third quarter he came over for a drink, looked at me and said I tell you what, we'll shoot some 3s just for you. He was kidding but they were up by 17 at that point and were doing whatever they wanted offensively. Its just one game so keep the faith.
Thats exactly what I said in a comment up thread. No reason to shoot 3’s when you can shoot 2’s at a 74% clip.
Our guys have to guard better. Can’t allow one guy (any guy, whoever has the ball) to drive all the way to the basket on every possession.
Now, in our guys’ defense (slightly), I did think the refs called some ticky tack fouls on our guys when they did defend well, especially in the first half, so maybe that set the tone to some degree and affected how our guys guarded for the rest of the game. I’m not blaming the refs, but it may have been a slight factor.
What I think is ironic is that I think if GT had committed to playing the same style of ball as UNF, then we could have beat them at their own game. I think our guards were superior to theirs, and Nate, McCollum, and Reeves could have got to the rim all game whenever they wanted, but we played the drive and kick game instead.
