I want to blame the coach and players but psychologically they are coming out empty defensively and on the boards because fans and alumni and students clearly don’t give a **** about them. It’s just human nature. Not sure how to fix it.

What is this nonsense? We have been to one NCAAT since 2010, and we hired a coach with a losing record who had never taken a team to the NCAAT. Do you expect fans to show up unconditionally? GT has given nothing for the fans to be excited about and this game just furthers that. Don't blame the fans for the poor performance of a coach who makes 2 mil and a bunch of players on full ride + whatever they get from NIL?

The defense cant be blamed on psychology. The team is constructed in a way that makes defense an obvious likely issue. Nate, McCollum, and Terry are historically not good defenders. Reeves has never lived up to his athletic potential defensively either here or at UF. Obrien was good one year and otherwise middle of the road. Duncan was a middle of the pack defender at a much lower level last year. Baye is the only player we have that there is really any reason to believe is a strong defender. The freshman have some potential defensively, but they are freshman and not the kind that come in an anchor the defense right away. This roster was built where the best line up is a small ball line up with a bad defensive back court, backed by a front court without a true rim protector. That is the problem defensively. And doesn't really appear we gain any kind of edge scheme wise either.

I am not trying to pretend we're an elite defensive team but you've been critical of CDS his whole tenure. Pointing out that he has a losing record and never took Pacific to an NCAAT weakens your argument. John Wooden wouldn't be able to take Pacific to the NCAA Tournament.

McCollum is quick as a cat. There is no reason he shouldn’t be able to stay in front of most any guard on the perimeter.

Layups will beat 3 pointers most times, because layups are a much higher percentage shot. That’s exactly what happened today. We shot great from 3 point land and still got blown out because they scored at the rim nearly at will.

Defense absolutely sucked today. UF had 80 points with 13 minutes left in the game. You are not going to beat anybody playing defense like that.

I'm not all doom and gloom about this loss but how can we consistently have teams that can't make lay ups?

Seemed like McCollum could get to the basket and score at will and he just stopped doing that.

Agreed. Several times ours guys would beat their man, drive half way to the basket, and then turn around and look for the kick out to a 3 point shooter when they still had an uncontested lane to the basket. They have obviously been coached to drive and kick, but if you can get to the rim and get a guaranteed 2 you have to take it every time. Frustrating to watch.

Today basketball games are shoot 3s or shoot at the rim. North Florida executed that extremely. We did as well for about 25 minutes then we were awful on offense.

Defense was poor all game!

Looked like the ball movement/decision making suffered when they fell behind. And of course the D needs a lot of work.

We are big and long, but we are uncoordinated and lazy. We were beaten by a smaller group of players who simply wanted it more. Why do I say they wanted it more, almost every stat is a wash except for rebounds. They had more defensive rebounds and had more overall rebounds. And they were smaller. Which tells me they had better positioning and were more aggressive.

They wanted it more. Let that sink in—all the millions of dollars we have spent to hire coaches and buy players—it doesn't matter. We just lost to North Florida. And before anybody says South Carolina lost to them, S.C. lost by 4, and we just lost by 12. By that standard, we are worse than South Carolina.

Blame who you want, but we are not a good team—and honestly, we haven't been for a long time.

I'm tired of this ****

I don’t completely agree. UF shot fairly poorly from 3 (29%), and they still scored 105 points. They scored 52 points in the paint and shot 74% from 2 point range. If you can shoot 74% from 2 point range, there isn’t much need to shoot 3 pointers at all, but the other team has to be pretty crap on defense to allow 74% on 2 pointers.

What? The defensive thing had nothing to do with the CDS hire part.

Otherwise, my point isn't hurt at all that he had a losing record and never took Pacific to the NCAAT. That was aimed directly at blaming the fans for being apathetic. And it isn't even about whether he did a good job at Pacific or not. It's about what his resume lacked, and that is success anywhere close to what we want here. Don't blame fans when the program has done very little to do anything to excite fans the past decade and a half. So if we want better fan engagement either win, or at the very least the next time we make a hire, make an actual splash hire.
