  1. Conference Realignment

Stanford is in Stanford, CA, adjacent to Palo Alto, which is south of San Francisco about halfway to San Jose. Cal, their biggest rival, is across the Bay in Berkley, adjacent to Oakland.
  2. Conference Realignment

Both are in the Bay Area.
  3. Post from former Tech beat writer

Great story, Hjacket. I have one too. Following the misery that was our 1987 & 1988 football seasons, we had Bobby Ross as our summer 1989 Triad Alumni Club meeting in Winston-Salem. Prior to dinner you would have thought Coach Ross had come from a leper colony. Very few attendees were...
  4. Bill Curry and his move to Bama

Chick Graning was a well thought of, friendly guy. Seeing him on the Hill with his face black and blue and his jaw wired shut after what Holt did was sickening. The AJC did an excellent job of fanning the flames. I don't think Bryant or Holt ever apologized to Tech or Graning.
  5. Bill Curry and his move to Bama

I think this is true. If I recall correctly, the other side of the coin is that the new Alabama President had the radical idea that Alabama could excel both academically and athletically, and he thought Curry would be a great choice to advance this initiative. The Alabama alumni power base...
  6. Garrett Riley . . .

Clemson also misses their anchor point DC, Brent Venables.
  7. Is this our best coaching staff of all time?

Dodd and Graves both played college football at Tennessee, but Broyles was a Tech man. At Tech he was three-time all-SEC (twice first-team) and second-team All-America on the gridiron, playing for William Alexander and Bobby Dodd. He was also a first-team all-SEC guard on the basketball court...
  8. Is this our best coaching staff of all time?

Tech's 1952 staff wasn't bad. Head Coach Bobby Dodd; Offensive Coordinator Frank Broyles; Defensive Coordinator Ray Graves - all Hall of Famers!! I saw this team as a kid - one of the greatest Tech teams.
  9. new schedule format

I wish the ACC had just gone to a pure rotational system. I don’t care how they did what they did. What we got sucks, feels like the dregs. Clemson will make money but, like UGA, result in an almost certain loss - every year. Louisville is not a rival. Wake doesn’t feel like one either, but...
  10. Conference Realignment

A Wolverine's view: https://wolverineswire.usatoday.com/lists/big-ten-conference-expansion-what-schools-could-it-add/ As has been pointed out, the BiG attaches a bit more importance to a school's educational credentials than does the SEC.
  11. Conference Realignment

I don't think most North Carolinians (of which I am one) would confuse UNC with a yankee magnet school.
  12. Conference Realignment

I think she must have confused it with UNC's next door neighbor, Dook.
  13. Transfer Portal: Who's Coming and Going (2022 Roster)

I think we are in a transition phase now. I believe we're likely to see some restraints put on the transfer portal. I think they'd like to put some constraints around NIL, but that will be very difficult. The rich will get richer, and competition will suffer. Some fans will lose interest.
  14. We need to jump ship

O'Leary had it about right when he said that Tech folks want to be MIT during the week and FSU on weekends. Not an easy road, but probably more compatible with being in the ACC than the SEC.
  15. We need to jump ship

That was George Morris from Vicksburg, I believe. Dodd felt he was the best of all the players he coached. (Larry, the other Morris, was from Decatur.)
  16. Suddes

UNC is the flagship college athletic program in NC, and their fan base easily exceeds ours. Their financial situation is also considerably stronger. They have an excellent academic reputation and offer a university curriculum. Which makes for an attractive place to build a football program...
  17. OC Chip Long Press Conference

Over the many years I've watched Tech football, three OCs stand out: Frank Broyles, Ralph Friedgen, and Paul Johnson. I would love to see this guy join the circle.
  18. Mostly “Fire Geoff Collins”, some reminiscing, maybe bourbon or other distractions

Recruits, prospects, and their friends, parents read this stuff. So do competitive recruiters who love looking through our dirty laundry. Our continuing to dwell on it does us no good. Time to get off this sad train and make an effort to be positive for a change. Or just be quiet. If you...
  19. Mostly “Fire Geoff Collins”, some reminiscing, maybe bourbon or other distractions

This whole thread has served its purpose, run its course, and needs to be deleted or at least frozen. Keeping it front and center can only harm Tech football.
  20. Former Jacket, Travares Tillman is our next DB coach

Travares was an outstanding DB and a favorite of mine during the last half of the 90s. If he coaches anywhere near the level of his play, he'll be a real asset to the program.
