    More Defensive Coaches

I’m hearing that key is still a go. We haven’t filled an OL coach, and CGC is big on this trend of using Co-coordinators. I wouldn’t worry. I’m a big fan of bringing on key, brings so much credibility to our recruiting and staff given his pedigree.

    Early Protential Depth Chart

I think we have a decent two-deep at DT. The freshman DT that turned OL (Smith?) would be a logical candidate for an OL->DT position change. I think the biggest gap on Defense is WDE and LBs / Safeties that are worth a damn. We have plenty of bodies at LB / Safety, but I have seen a lot of...

    Early Protential Depth Chart

OT: all bets are off. It’s going to come down to who can most quickly pick up pass and zone run blocking (slightly different, but somewhat similar to elements of TO OL play). I think Quinney has the length / reach to be a solid LT. But I’m reluctant to anoint him given how poorly he pass blocked...

Biggest holes to fill O&D 2019

I know I’ve said this before, but I think it’s too important to not mention: the effort level in our last two games was piss poor. A major attitude adjustment needs to take place. Assistant coaches and team leaders have to hold people accountable. Seeing ILBs not filling gaps, DBs taking...

    OC Hire

I like whoever is writing the checks. I’m not going to hold Brent Key, or anybody else for the that matter, to a different standard.

There’s been no mention as to who will be calling plays. Second - Key is the OL coach for bama - the best program in the country. He’s not going to make a lateral move. I think his recruiting contacts and previous experiences working with Saban and GOL make it worth it to give him a title bump...

I don’t think calling out GT for the academics is an issue of integrity. I wouldn’t say any coach who comes to GT after employing this message at another school lacks integrity. If you hired a great sales-professional from a rival company...would you say that person lacks integrity? No, it’s...

The somewhat confirmed rumor by a paid website writer is that Key will come aboard as a co-OC / AHC / Running Game Coordinator / OL Coach. It’s a mouthful, but it’s the right role for him and it’s enticing enough for him to leave a better program.

    Homelessness in LA

UCLA - I’m not going to blame anyone for wanting to go to a great school in LA. All the California P12 schools have the same value proposition as GT but with nicer weather and more women. In terms of football - I don’t think UCLA is as good of a program as GT. But it’s not like we’ve really...

    New regime goal posts

I wouldn’t disagree. A better leadership nucleus would’ve driven 8-3 last year and 9-2 this year. Two acc championship appearances. There’s been something off with the coaching staff for a while and essentially no player-led accountability since JT5. When Johnson first arrived, he demonstrated...

    New regime goal posts

Honestly, After what I watched in that bowl game: crap effort and sloppy technique (tackling, pursuit / gap filling, blocking), it doesn’t matter what scheme, the culture has to change. The leadership and pride in performance has been porous at too many points in the last 2 years for me to...

This is what I’m hearing. I’ve heard nothing about tee Martin. I don’t think tee would have a job offer from GT if GT is all but hiring Patenaude and Key

Not to argue, but just a point to consider: Oklahoma probably hasn’t played a TO team in the past decade. I would also argue that Ok was severely caught off guard given that the TO style of offense is so stark relative to the pass-happy offenses in the rest of the Big 12 and southwest area.

I recognize that this is the OC thread, but a lot of interesting discussion that elecited some analysis: Positives to monken as a candidate: -great energy / personality -track record: turned around army and took GSU deep into the playoff every year -probably best TO guy in the prime of his HC...

    OC Hire

I think some of us need to take a step back and look at this in bigger context: the current staff, full of no name coaches who will largely be pressed to ever coach at another P5 school, has proven to not recruit well or coach well. The assistant coaching in the QuickLane Bowl (and much of the...
