Hmmm. If it was so clear cut that they offer so much more than us I wonder why they went 25-54 from 02-08?
Honestly the past decade is about the most successful they have ever been. Did they recently add more majors or become more prestigious?
The Stanford thing has everything to do with them recruiting smart kids like we have to. Some of us believe the curriculum angle is severely overblown and believe there is historical evidence to support this. Others disagree.
Haven’t those issues been consistent over the past several decades? While the spending gap has increased between us and the powers is that really reason to throw away our historical numbers and call 7-5 overachieving?
If Stansbury is successful at getting our spending to middle of the pack in...
I can agree with this. I just also happen to think that Johnson’s offense was at least as big of a problem as spending.
The spending argument is one I can certainly agree with. The academic angle is what I think history points to being severely overblown.
I guess my question would be how do you set your expectations? I set mine by looking back on what previous coaches did. If you don’t believe that holds merit now, how do you set your expectations?
and that’s my point right. If Johnson is offering these guys his track record says they would make it here. So the issue then goes to the recruitment of these kids and not the restrictions right?
I’m just amazed at how many people on here are so negative about our program. We literally have people around the country talking about what a good job this is and our own fanbase says they don’t know what they are talking about. It’s crazy.
Did Johnson struggle with it?
Because if he didn’t then one would expect the 70+ 4 & 5 star players he offered this year would have probably done just fine with.
I hear that consistently but believe it is overblown. Let’s be honest, we have been missing on almost all of our top targets that were qualified. For example CPJ offered roughly 75 4 & 5 star players in 2018 and struck out on all of them. With CPJ’s level of success at graduating players one...
The academic angle is grossly exaggerated. We recruited just fine under O’Leary and Lewis and Ross and Curry. Calculus was still apart of Tech back then. Talking about it to the limit we do is an excuse and nothing more.
I believe the links provided support my claim. I encourage you to read them and tell me what more the individual could have done to prove he had the recruiting magazines he claimed? Do you believe it is reasonable to believe he has committed the various classes to memory in order to support his...
I know it’s all about the coach for you but for me it’s more about the program. It’s just a simple fact that Johnson was the worst recruiter at GT since we entered the ACC. Yes even Bill Lewis recruited better. And by a pretty wide margin.
You seem like a reasonable guy. Do you have any recollection of O’Leary’s reacruiting classes? I’m guessing no from your lack of knowledge on them. I’m not being mean but why are you having such a strong opinion over something you are ignorant of? I’m telling you I remember the classes of...
Are you kidding me? In that link you had an individual posting that literally could tell you every commit from a given class in any year asked for and you don't think he was getting that from a book?
Why do you want the history of GT recruiting to be so poor? Is it just to justify the...
Honestly I believe all the candidates being considered will improve recruiting starting with next years class except for Whisenhunt where I believe a learning curve similar to Gailey could take place.
I understand your rationale, but believe you are doing our program a disservice by using Gailey’s first 5 classes as the benchmark for our program. He recruited at the very bottom of power 5 football which is a drastic departure from where our program had been recruiting.
I’ll just leave it at...
