Yeah. You must have missed my most recent post prior to this. 8 of the 17 classes before Gailey were ranked in the top 25. Calling Gailey's first 5 classes the standard for GT recruiting prior to Johnson is just slanderous to the GT program. But it doesn't fit your narrative so carry on and...
As you know, finding good data on pre 2002 recruiting classes is much more difficult. Here is a link to a thread talking about historical rankings of GT classes that says Joe Terranova had us ranked 19th in 99 which matches my memory of that class. This was just after the time I started...
For the record I don’t believe Augusta was cherry picking data. The databases unfortunately only go back to 02 which is exactly when Gailey took over and our recruiting took a drastic drop from where O’Leary had it. The 4 of 9 top 30 classes comes when you include the classes O’Leary brought in...
And I get accused of cherry picking data. If you don’t understand the impact this offense has on recruiting then so be it. 4 of the previous 9 classes prior to CPJ were top 30 with 3 being top 20. CPJ’s highest class was 39th all while having 2 Orange Bowl season in his first 7 years. If his...
You guys are great. I try to be objective and I say the same thing about you guys. I say this with a smile on my face. It’s crazy how differently 2 people can view the same topic.
Go Jackets regardless of who coaches us!
And this is exactly my point. We had recruiting rolling under O’Leary and hired a guy that was not prepared for the job and had a huge learning curve and are using his time learning the recruiting game at GT as the standard. That is a problem.
At least 3 of the previous 9 classes before CPJ were top 20 classes yet CPJ’s top class was 39th in 11 seasons. Like i said earlier. You are one of my favorite posters. Thanks for your thoughts.
Good question. Gailey did better when he had his own less heralded recruits. Although the center piece for his best teams was a generational talent in Calvin.
No doubt about that. Like I said, using Gailey as your barometer for expectations on recruiting is not fair to the GT program in my estimation because his first 5 seasons were seen as very poor and well below the standard his predecessor had set.
Fair enough. I believe you are severely underestimating the degree to which Johnson's offense hurt recruiting but at least we can agree that the last 2 coaches have demonstrated what our floor should be in recruiting. And I agree that the investment in our program has to improve.
Here is...
I have a different view of it Augusta. I've been a Tech fan for a while and have closely followed recruiting since the late 90's. During Gailey's first few years his recruiting classes were ripped apart by Tech fans who had become used to competing with the big boys for our players. As time...
There are absolutely zero facts to show that CPJ was "doing quite well" as you say in recruiting. You may justify his poor recruiting by pointing to the changing landscape of college football but no one should say he was "doing quite well" in recruiting.
