After that muffed-punt touchdown, our D forced two punts to end the first half and then 2 punts and a turnover on downs to start the second half. We only punted one more time. It is, of course, possible that both our D and our O would have simply collapsed if we had not recovered that fumbled...
We were fortunate that they had some inexplicable incompletions, where the ball went through the hands of a wide open receiver. The UNC quarterback is really accurate. If we don't get pressure, we could have a long day on D.
Pretty good look, but I think any discussion of positions will be beside the point, not least because we definitely (imo) won't have the same guy playing the 5 on both O and D.
Over the last several years, the average points/drive versus power5 opponents has been 2.0 to 2.2. If they had scored on 5 of 12 drives, that would've been 2.92 points/drive. In reality you can't subtract the two run back scores and still count them as drives. USF's O scored TD's on 5 of 10...
I really like footballoutsiders, but I really think that they're not handling strength of schedule well. I really don't think that so many Group of Five Defenses are that much better than ACC defenses this year.
There are no excuses for our losses to Pitt and USF.
It's updated. It doesn't count FCS games (our win vs Alcorn St). I don't recall what our absolute FEI was last week, but I suspect that somehow LaLa sneaked above us in ranking even though our FEI improved.
Can we just pause a moment and remember CBG's recruiting. There was no late start talk when he brought in Marcus, Carter, and Solo (iirc) in year one. Then he brings in JO on the way out the door.
Bud for him
In the unc presser which I just now saw, CPJ said, "It wasn't a sweep but a different option" or something like that. So, I guess it was the Zone Option which would be a zone play.
During the call-in show, Andy mentioned to coach that Bedford had complimented Tobias for not missing reads on Zone Option. I'm wondering if some of those sweeps were Zone Options that were just mostly read as keeps rather than pitch. IIUC, the Zone option is a double (keep or pitch) option...
You meant Washington State (like thread), and we're now at +5. The LOLvl and vpi games are just insane for offensive efficiency. UNC, like those two teams, has had a lowly rated defense (FEI). If things play to form, we should have another dominating performance this Saturday...
