Duke 31 - Tech 17
I think our O looks a little better, but our D continues to struggle against a coaching staff that knows how to take advantage of our personnel issues
This is pretty much where I am. As someone earlier mentioned, losing sucks but we seem to be losing in a particularly joyless way right now. I had pretty low expectations this season (like 3 wins) but I thought we'd be a little more fun to watch as we grew into the new offense.
I really hope Collins can turn it around in football. We'll essentially be among the worst power 5 sports program the next couple of years and it's easy to get stuck there
Maybe that's the problem. Why are we doing downfield so much when our O-line can't block? Where are the screens and short crossing patterns that get the ball out quickly?
Those are not equal things. Not a title contender != being in the gutter
Over the last 7 years, we've been bad, good and in-between. Only the 3-9 season would I consider 'in the gutter'
I do disagree.
I think the rule changes made an 11 win season unlikely, but I would have expected at least 6 wins against this schedule, with a chance at 9 if things broke out way.
That said, PJ is gone, so it doesn't really matter.
I had hoped that our current staff was good enough to...
That wasn't just his buyout. FSU paid Oregon >5 million to cover his buyout there and the previous buyout Ore was paying for. The 30 mil over the 2 years was all that cost, plus the salaries and buyout at the end of this season.
Can they afford to? I saw somewhere they would have spent like 30 million for 2 years if they fire him after this season. Their finances are better than ours, but I'm not sure they can absorb another big hit
This thread is s good example of why I spend very little time on the board recently. I'm excited about the new staff but every thread is full of fonts crapping on Johnson.
I guess I'll tune back in the fall when we have actual football to talk about
Our SOS in Johnson's best years: 2009 (11-3) 17th, 2014 (11-3) was 26th, 2016 (9-4) 38th
Our SOS in Gailey's best year 2006 (9-5) was 42nd.
I don't doubt that Gailey on average faced a tougher schedule, but I think it's overblown by people who like to #$#$ on Johnson's success here.
If you believe that, then you should be for unrestricted transfers. If schools can cut a player at any time, that player should be able to move to another school at any time with no penalty.
I think it's entirely fair for a coach to tell a player that he's not a big part of the program's future, and if wants playing time he should look into transferring. If he's focused on the Tech degree and is willing to take a smaller role, I would be disappointed if we tried to force him into a...
