  1. Mostly “Fire Geoff Collins”, some reminiscing, maybe bourbon or other distractions

Well … there were, I think, at least two coaches - Moncken and Bohannon - who would have jumped into the burning building with gusto and who would have given the program continuity. I think what you mean is that for coaches who weren't going to run the TO, Collins was the best choice we had at...
  2. Non-player rumor from UF

If this is true - I'm not sure - I think it is up to Tstan. IF we win 3 - 4 games this year and IF the offer might5 be forthcoming, he could tell Collins that he's gone after next year and that he has the money to fire him. That might be what the move would need. But … I don't think UF is...
  3. Virginia Postgame

I think the jury is still out on Sims. He could be a great dual QB. Then again, he might not be. Right now he reminds me a lot of Reg when he was a sophomore. Like Reg, he can run. Like Reg, he has a cannon for an arm. And, like Reg, he makes a lot of throws into coverage and doesn't know when...
  4. Virginia Postgame

True. But only if the coach decides to LET SIMS RUN. Sharader is probably the best running QB in the ACC and his coaches know that and exploit it. Sims could be; he doesn't have Sharader's size, but he's faster. We'll see if our coaching staff decides to exploit the Turkies weaknesses or not.
  5. Virginia Postgame

Personally, I think any team with an RB like Thomas should be favored in a game with Tech. He rushed for 151 yards last Saturday and we haven't shown much in the way of run D. But … opinions differ.
  6. Poll - Number of Wins This Year

I think 4, maybe 5. I don't see Tech beating da U, ND, or the dwags. We might beat either VT or BC, but both of those teams are the kind that make it harder for us. VT is pretty good on D and BC will just line up and run right over us. We could beat one of them, however. Then we'll have to see...
  7. Virginia Postgame

I didn't watch the game - I watched the Braves (yay!). But, come on, 636 yards total O? And 240 of that on the ground? I mean, these guys had a hard time getting to 100 YPG rushing before they ran into Tech. We're getting better on O ourselves (at least against teams that, you know, can't stop...
  8. Triple Option

Yes. Kaipo is right top there with Jack Mildren, J. C. Watts, Tracy Ham, and Ricky Dobbs as the TO QB. Justin Thomas was good, but I kept wishing we'd find another Kaipo. After the 2017 Tennessee game, I thought we had him; TaQuoan played one of the best games evah by a TO QB in that one...
  9. Game 7 #GTvsUVA Predictions

Hmmmm. And both the TO and passing a lot can win consistently. Oth …
  10. Game 7 #GTvsUVA Predictions

Again, I don't have a specific score. I voted for the Snobs by 7 - 13. I think that's about right, but we could win and they could slaughter us. Our pass D has been - shall we say - inconsistent this year.
  11. Triple Option

Hmmmm. Yet when Navy has that QB, things can get pretty exciting. See: Or this: Kaipo was a very bad young man. Justin Thomas was too.
  12. Triple Option

I generally agree with this, but both Army and Air Force are, like Navy, using some shotgun spread plays. I think it is more a matter of Navy not having the personnel needed to make the O work. Both Army and AF have that really good option QB that Navy doesn't. It was the same at Tech, though we...
  13. Ga Tech at UVA - 730PM

The final score was … 48 - 0. Maybe the better term would have been "curb stomping".
  14. Sims=Bilbo

I'll say this about the comparison. First, Bilbo was much better then he was cracked up to be. He had an arm like a cannon and could run. His problem was that he never found a QB coach who could get him over the hump on the field. Second, Sims is already a decent QB. And if the coaches WOULD LET...
  15. Ga Tech at UVA - 730PM

I watched the UVA/Puke game. The Cavs boat-raced a team Tech had a very hard time beating. The game is in Scott Stadium. The place where many a good Tech football season has gone to die. I'd say we will be lucky to win. Very lucky. But then the Braves are up 2-0 …
  16. Triple Option

I've never bought this. As was mentioned before, it isn't as if the D never saw shotgun spread Os during the season. I would also add that the players on the scout team that mimicked opposing Os had all played pretty mu8ch the same O in high school, just as the majority of the players on the...
  17. Triple Option

I'm not sure why anyone would say this. TO offenses have always worked wherever they are used. Tech usually averaged 30+ points a game; our problem was always on D during Paul's time. The probelm isn't the O; it's finding coaches who know how to teach TO offenses. There are still a lot of...
  18. Coach Dave Patenaude

Ah, but that was in an O that depended on deception. Running the dive was the necessary for immobilizing opposing Ds, especially the LBs. And once the DTs softened up - and they usually did by the middle of the 3rd quarter - everything else worked even better. That's why I used to look forward...
  19. Coach Dave Patenaude

    It worked too.
  20. What area needs to be improved the most

    Beethoven wrote it, btw.
