  1. Jordan Yates

Soooooo … if we have running QBs who can throw, what should the O look like? Like this: This is Utah in 2004 with Alex Smith at QB. Notice the many two back sets and the way the O converts from one back to two back by shifts at the snap. And how Smith's running sets up the dive. And the...
  2. Mostly “Fire Geoff Collins”, some reminiscing, maybe bourbon or other distractions

It's "a dead girl or a live boy". Edmund Edwards said that once about what it would take to beat him in an election. He was right; even the Feds had to wait until he had been out of office for a few years to get him.
  3. Mostly “Fire Geoff Collins”, some reminiscing, maybe bourbon or other distractions

I've had both high school and college coaches who've said pretty much the same thing after a loss, albeit without the gatorade throwing. But that was back in the Dark Ages. Perhaps things have changed.
  4. Jordan Yates

Given that Yates was recruited to be Ricky Dobbs II - and he would have been - I think he's done well. I can see why the coaches start Sims, sorta; he's more physically impressive. If they would just - yes, I'm going to say it again - let Sims run more, he'd be much more effective. Yates...

Did you listen to Collins's last presser (I think)? What he said is that, despite losing (again), the team still acts like winners. The problem with this is that they are losing. Soooo … of course, I don't know what goes on in Tech's locker room. What I'm pretty certain of is that nothing like...
  6. Mostly “Fire Geoff Collins”, some reminiscing, maybe bourbon or other distractions

Here's what we are really missing: I can guarantee everyone that nothing like this ever happens in Tech's locker room. And, imho, until it does nothing will change.
  7. True team player and hopefully future star

More like a Calvin Ridley 2.0, I think. My guess is that any pro team will move him to WR soonest. Mason is more like what they are looking for.
  8. Mostly “Fire Geoff Collins”, some reminiscing, maybe bourbon or other distractions

Have you ever read any of his reviews? Nobody here could touch his shoelaces.
  9. Game 10 #BCvsGT Predictions

This is another game we could win. I picked BC by under 7 and I think that's about right. We could just as easily win by the same margin, however. I expect them to line up and try to run right over us; another VT game for them, iow. I'm not sure we can stop that; we haven't in the last few...

Here's one more in line with this thread: "No opinion is worth burning your neighbor for." True enough.
  11. Transfer Impact 2021

You're right. What I should have said is that our transfers didn't fulfill expectations at the schools they originally chose. It's not that they all failed; more that they didn't meet what their original coaches (and they themselves) thought they could do. So they came to Tech. I sadi in...
  12. Transfer Impact 2021

I've said a couple of times here that expecting players who couldn't get on the field at factories to immediately and dramatically contribute at Tech was unrealistic. Interestingly, our most effective transfer (imho, McGowan) came in from Northwestern of all places. We need to recruit...

True. There will be a lot of Ugag fans attending …
  14. Mostly “Fire Geoff Collins”, some reminiscing, maybe bourbon or other distractions

2014 was Paul's 7th year. 2016 was his 9th. To recall, we were 11 - 3 in 2014 and ended up ranked 7; in 2016 we were 9 - 4 and curbed stomped a favored SEC team in our bowl game. Oh, and we beat Georgia both years. So much for early success with Gailey recruits.
  15. Mostly “Fire Geoff Collins”, some reminiscing, maybe bourbon or other distractions

Yes, this is very frustrating to me. We had many fonts here complaining about mediocre results. Many of them are now hoping for 6 wins next year after three seasons of failure. Let me repeat that: FAILURE. I was willing to wait for a couple of years and I expected that we wouldn't be all that...
  16. Wizard's First Rule and GT Football: The Trials and Tribulations of Being a Fan

Yes. It's in the so-called Melian dialogue. It's full of stuff like that. Here it is in full: “For ourselves, we shall not trouble you with specious pretences- either of how we have a right to our empire because we overthrew the Mede, or are now attacking you because of wrong that you have done...
  17. Wizard's First Rule and GT Football: The Trials and Tribulations of Being a Fan

Thucydides said it better: "Their judgment was based more on wishful thinking than on a sound calculation of chances; for the usual thing among men is that when they want something they will, without any reflection, leave that to hope, while they will employ the full force of reason in...
  18. #GTvsMIA Postgame. Tech falls short 33-30

1 & 2: But they are seldom on the field at the same time so that the D has to watch both and Sims has a choice on what to do with them. What we need is a regular diet of two back sets with both players on the field. 3. Imho, they don't. When Sims runs it is usually because his protection breaks...
  19. #GTvsMIA Postgame. Tech falls short 33-30

Mason. He's exactly what pro teams are looking for at RB these days: big, fast, makes his own holes, can catch, and he can block. I think he'll stick somewhere.
  20. #GTvsMIA Postgame. Tech falls short 33-30

I watched it. They handed us the ball game and, while we did take them up on it, we didn't play well enough on D - again - to really benefit from it. Any team that losses 3 fumbles in a game ought to lose. It's to our credit that we scored off of two of the turnovers. It's to theirs that they...
