  1. Mostly “Fire Geoff Collins”, some reminiscing, maybe bourbon or other distractions

Presented without comment: Tale of the tape: https://www.foxsports.com/college-football/boxscore?id=29015&tab=boxscore Now, you were saying … ? Update: This was Paul's late revenge for VanGorder dissing the spread option when he had his disastrous year as head coach at GSU. I would have...

This is why I like system offenses. If you recruit for particular roles instead of particular players, you are much less likely to make mistakes that leave you stranded. My favorite example = Robert Godhigh. Almost nobody recruited him except Tech, despite sterling HS creds. And we got every bit...

You think this is an argument for your point? And, btw, when Paul took over in 2008, we went 9 - 4. Hiring the right coach makes a difference even when the personnel don't fit the offense.
  4. Building the Offensive Line

Yeah, you're right. Problem = all of our competitors have similar goals and a head start. Also, imho, our OL recruiting, even through the portal, has not been stellar so far. Our "good" OLs tend to be about average. Key and co. would miss - and probably have - a Shaq Mason too easily and no...
  5. 2021 stats year in review

Fine effort. The scatterplots are much more useful, imho, then the summary stats. One quibble = you don't label the axises on the graphs; translating the main labels to the axises shouldn't be my problem. I also would have liked to see some 2020 v. 2021 graphs. That would have made it easier to...

Coach Clawson is exactly the kind of coach they need at Wake. He tales mid-50s recruiting classes of people other programs overlook (best example = the Carney brothers) and keeps them in development for 5 years. Then he starts them. With Hartman coming back, the rest of the ACC will be in a heap...

Oh. Well, 247 and Rivals often, shall we say, disagree. In general, I like 247 better, but it's a matter of choice. It might have been better to include ratings from both in the original post. Or in mine, for that matter. As the French say, tant pis.

Took a quick look at 247. I'm not sure where you are getting your figures. According to 247, we have recruited 8 four stars since 2020. Stanford has brought in 13, Iowa 10, UCLA 13, and so on. I think you must be including high school rankings of transfers, but I didn't take the time to find...

We're recruiting them alright. It's getting them to come to Tech and stay that's the problem.
  10. Mostly “Fire Geoff Collins”, some reminiscing, maybe bourbon or other distractions

True. Their's is higher then ours. Except maybe Wake. They're winning by coaching.
  11. Favorite 2021 GT FB Memories

I wish I thought this was enough. Imho, we need to find the Bill James clones and hire them. I would guess that young college coaches seldom have the educational background to plan data collection strategies, collect the data, and analyze it usefully. This is an area where football is eons...
  12. Favorite 2021 GT FB Memories

More then you know. One reason Bama hired Curry was because he would bring with him Tech's computer programs and scouting methods used in recruiting. Nobody in this part of the country had anything like it at the time. Query: what isn't this still a Tech strength? Easy answer = lack of money...
  13. Favorite 2021 GT FB Memories

One problem = Bill Curry had - wait for it - Bobby Dodd to go over every game with him and critique his performance for the first 3 years. It's easy to learn how to coach when you have somebody like that looking over your shoulder. Unfortunately, no such luck for Collins. Too bad, that.
  14. Mostly “Fire Geoff Collins”, some reminiscing, maybe bourbon or other distractions

We've beat them before. We can beat them again. Illegitimi non carborundum, you know.
  15. Mostly “Fire Geoff Collins”, some reminiscing, maybe bourbon or other distractions

Now wait just a minute. There's a difference between frustration with continuing failure and hate. There's also a difference between justifiable criticism of a failing coaching staff and "denigrating" said staff. Indeed, I would say that both forms of criticism are a sign of support for Tech's...
  16. Beautiful plays

I would dearly loved to have seen Tyson versus Rocky Marciano. They were virtually the same fighter, though The Rock fought better opponents. It would have been like the two great Sonny Liston versus Cleveland Williams fights: go to the center of the ring and slug it out. Liston won both times...
  17. Quez Jackson Declares for the Draft

Good luck, Quez! You're a right good country LB and don't let anybody or any rating tell you different. I'm sure you will succeed, no matter how your future works out. Thanks for you efforts for Tech! They paid off, believe me.
  18. Mostly “Fire Geoff Collins”, some reminiscing, maybe bourbon or other distractions

My bad: it was 16 - 7 at the half in the Armed Forces Bowl.
  19. Mostly “Fire Geoff Collins”, some reminiscing, maybe bourbon or other distractions

Let;'s look at the Armed Forces Bowl, shall we? Woody made adjustments to Army's D at the half that changed a 17 - 7 deficit into a 22 - 24 win at the end the game. I.e. Missouri scored 17 points in the first half and 5 (as in five) in the second. Add in scoring 17 points on O in the second half...
