  1. Marco Coleman to Sparty?

I'm sorry Marco is leaving. I always hoped he could find us another Coleman Rudolph or Gotsis to give the DL a little juice. Good luck in your new position, Marco! We'll miss you. Again.
  2. THE big news story of 2022 and maybe the rest of the century

Here it is: https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2022/1/29/2077037/-Burning-plasma-Controlled-nuclear-fusion-on-Earth-briefly-sustains-itself That, sports fans, is what you call news. It doesn't mean that a fusion reactor will show u- in your neighborhood next year, but maybe sooner then everyone...
  3. Thoughts on the Portal

I'm coming to feel about big time college football then same way I feel about boxing. There's almost no sporting event I like better then a title boxing match. It has an excitement that isn't matched by any other sport, imho. However, if I had it in my power, I'd get rid of prize fighting...
  4. Christian Malloy transferring back?

Oh, well, since you insist. In 2020, Griffin had 33 attempts and in 2019 47. Or, to put it another way, roughly the same number of carries per year that Malloy did and Griffin's carries have decreased over the last three years. Mind, I expect Griffin to challenge for a starting role this year...
  5. Christian Malloy transferring back?

That's better then Griffin averaged this year (you can check). I would welcome a bit more experience, but, for the third time, I doubt if Malloy will see the field at Tech again. Too bad, that.
  6. Christian Malloy transferring back?

Yes. He didn't start, but he played regularly. Those numbers are what that means.
  7. Christian Malloy transferring back?

Well … provided that one of them provides consistent running up to either/or Gibbs or Mason, yes. I think Smith will do just fine and Griffin might beat him out too. But another body would be handy. Especially one as fast and as good in the trash as Malloy. But, like I said, I doubt this is...
  8. Christian Malloy transferring back?

If Christian comes back and plays it will be a plus. Our RB room is decimated and he played regularly for Coastal, though he didn't start. I know I was not pleased when he left; he has plenty of talent and a real burst of speed. As in: But I also doubt that the story is true.
  9. Clemson Football Game

We won't. This has been another in a series of simple answers to simple questions.
  10. 2022 Spring Game

I remember the last time I went to a spring game in March. I can't remember the year, but it was raining, about 35 degrees, and the wind was blowing. I have seldom been colder then I was at that game. I mean, I know we are in for climate change, but anyone who trusts the weather in Atlanta...
  11. Why punt? Ever.

Bingo. The way baseball analytics work is that you plan strategy to maximize wins. I seldom see this in football analysis. Instead, the emphasis seems to be on individual performance and, to a lesser extent, on down success. No doubt the two are related, but the number one fact in football is...
  12. Why punt? Ever.

I'd say it depends more on the yards to first, field position, and, perhaps most important, who will get the ball. Take Paul's decision in the Taxpayer to go for the 1st on our 25 yard line with fourth and (roughly) 1.5 yards to go. The yards to gain were negligible and Paul knew with virtually...
  13. Rate: Strength Coach Lew Caralla

I've long had doubts about the S&C program. It is true that players are bigger and, perhaps, gym stronger. I don't think that is a clear upgrade, however. We seem to have worked hard on strength and weight and sacrificed speed and flexibility in the process. A good example here would be at our...
  14. Locker room issues?

And Carman weighed in at about 350. Shamire was more like 360 - 70. And that was after fall camp. He often came in at closer to 380. I had a great time at his first Clemson game. A Tigger fan was sitting next to me and asked for his specifics. (Shamire's back being about a foot higher in a...
  15. Locker room issues?

I just tried, without success, to find the great picture of Will Jackson - 6'3", 285 Will Jackson - riding Shamire piggyback. Will looked like a child in that pic, a child I tell you. Shamire was the biggest OL in Tech history; even Jon Carman wasn't that big. Wish we had another like him, but...
  16. Locker room issues?

You left out Quinney, DeFoor, the Morgans, and Hansen, who all started when they were healthy. Basics, in order = 6'6", 300, 6'4" 295, 6'4" 300/295 for both, 6'2" 325. Sorry, but that's about the same size as what we are fielding now. I've always found the "Our OL was recruited for a different...
  17. Today in Analytics...

Ask and you shall receive: Everything you asked for is here. (True, when he had time to throw, Oliver fell down so maybe that doesn't count.) And only three seasons ago. Remarkable, isn't it? The condensed game is fun to watch too. The blocking is great in this game.
  18. JAYBO SHAW

The quintessenial Jaybo Shaw play: Now, that, sports fans, is how to time a pitch. Jaybo may not have been the most physically talented QB we ever had - Nesbitt deserved to start all those years - but he knew how to run the option and wasn't afraid to give himself up to make a play work. I...
  19. Mostly “Fire Geoff Collins”, some reminiscing, maybe bourbon or other distractions

Just to emphasize something here. In 2021, Army won 9 games and Air Force won 10. And both teams won their bowl games against P5 outfits. And, yes, everyone runs option plays as part of their O, albeit normally double options. But that was what Tech ran mainly with the spread option as well.
  20. Mostly “Fire Geoff Collins”, some reminiscing, maybe bourbon or other distractions

Yet the spread option succeeded and we won with it. Indeed, the year before we embarked on the present experiment, we won 7 games and went to a bowl game. All with the recruits we got to come to Tech while we were running the TO. We won because we ran a system offense and recruited for that...
