Well, that was a humiliating experience. My impressions:
The Good:
• The first two series on O and D were up to expectations.
The Bad:
• #1 with a bullet: Tech can't run the ball. That makes everything else much more difficult. I wish Dontae Smith had been out there; he can hit a hole with...
Hmmmmm. Coach Clawson doesn't seem to have.a problem fielding experienced teams. I htink this is an area where Tech's difficulties in recruiting "5*" high school players might work to our advantage. I would guess - I don't know this - that many of Wake's players are there to show what they can...
Just looked at our depth chart for Bowling Green. Our team is still extremely young. All you have to do is go one deep at many positions to run into true freshmen. No doubt some of these players will turn out to be ok; MacKenny has. Still, I long for the day when we'll put a team of seniors and...
Well … yes and no. Black absorbs heat, but leaves the wearer cool underneath because it does. Hence all those black tents in the Middle East and the way the desert dwellers always wear black and the other dark colors.
But, shoot, these are kinda like the old black watch uniforms - missing the...
I saw something this weekend that we could try to do if more people came out. Oregon's colors are green and yellow. Brooks stadium is laid out in sections, just like at (and it always will be) Grant Field. The fans there are apparently told what color to wear for their section, either yellow or...
So would I. A good example of why is Rem Koolhaus's library in Seattle. From the outside it looks - well, weird. From the inside it is absolutely the best designed public library I've ever seen.
Ok, I doubt that Koolhaus is the designer here, but it might turn out to be a huge winner on the...
My impressions:
The Good
• Normally, when an opponent turns the ball over 5 times you might say they gave us the ball game. This is not what happened last night. What happened is that our D took the game. It is hard to believe that the D that collapsed against Ole Miss sacked Griffis 8 (count...
Well, I don't think our coaches are ready for that. However, installing a few of the Army QB runs would help at the goal line. We are either handing off or throwing way too much. It's like Coach Dodd used to say, "No passes inside the 5 yard line>" (Or something like that.) Good advice to this...
I'm glad Waller had the guts to break his addiction and tell his story. I did a lot of work with drug courts in my career and I can tell you that doing both is not even close to easy. Both are necessary to change your life and give you a chance to use what gifts you have. Congratulations to...
The big one for me (and Coach Dodd) was that Ole Miss started three drives inside Tech territory. One of these was on the blocked field goal. You just can't win with that kind of performance.
One other minus I failed to mention in my impressions: Tech seemed to be having trouble getting plays...
Just for the curious, see:
This is the Army - UTSA game highlights. Of little interest except that Woody's D actually knows how to tackle. And it does make a difference.
My impressions (a bit late; I've had more important (well, they are!) things to do):
The Good
• King had a pretty good game. The guy can throw. I wish he was a bit more ready to run, like Dart. They're quite similar, imho, and should be used accordingly.
• The RBs had a decent game. Losing...
Hmmmmmm. What school does this remind me of? One that had recruiting in the 50s (Wake's is actually a bit worse then that), used a system O, and played "above their pay grade"? Rats! It's on the tip of my tongue!
Now you know why I hope Tech adopts their model. Again.
I watched their game against ODU. If the Wake team that played the first half shows up, Tech wins by (probably) 7 to 14. If the Wake team that played the second half shows up, I think it'll probably go the other way and it might be worse.
The way to beat Wake is to stop the run. Griffis is a...
