    2024 Football Portal

Not sure where to put this but figure this is as good a place as any...The Athletic just published an interesting article about the Portal and NIL where they interviewed coaches, staff, players, and Collectives about the current state of things...

    Conference Realignment

Yes they are, until 2030-31. The article that @LT 1967 linked quotes a podcast by a guy whose credibility was bolstered by apparently calling the USC/UCLA to the BIG10 move in 2022 before any major outlets had the story. But the guy states on his podcast that the Kansas story is based on...

    Offseason Media 2024

One way to help attract these players is to be perceived by recruits and transfers as a school that gets players into the NFL. Sure, impact players help the perception, but to many, quantity is as important as quality. Not many beyond frustrated GT fans do a deep dive into the stats to...

    Offseason Media 2024

Valid questions for any school on the list. But let's undermine GT first, right? Wouldn't say Tyler is an impact player, but he's entering his 5th year in the league and just signed his 3rd contract with Green Bay. Edit to add: If any school can toot their horn about impact TEs in the NFL...

Thanks for sharing this. I don't usually pay much attention to these sessions, but this one may be one of the more interesting in recent years.

    House vs. NCAA

Correct. I was merely attempting to clarify that the NCAA, unlike most HOAs, has its own revenue stream apart from dues income. No doubt if the distribution of NCAA revenue were to change to be more directly to athletes, the revenue redistributed back to conferences and schools would drop...

    House vs. NCAA

March Madness media income is paid to the NCAA as the sponsor. The NCAA then distributes it to conferences and other funds. The last tournament brought in nearly $1B according to the article below, which when added to other tournaments the NCAA sponsors, brings their annual revenue to $1.29B...

    House vs. NCAA

Not so much a loss of revenue, but a much higher expense. The suit is asking for back pay for athletes. At least, I assume the reference is to House v. NCAA. Although it's being heard in CA, not DC. (Unless it is appealed to the Supreme Ct)

    Conference Realignment

I haven't checked any numbers but GT alums seem to do pretty well at giving back to the school. To their Athletic Association, not so much. Does Virginia (the school, not the athletic association) engage their alumni to the extent that they enhance donations to their athletic association?

2024 Schedule Difficulty - Projections per CFN

To your point, we don’t know what the strength of a team will be years down the road. But the likelihood of a “factory” school being a tough out is much higher than that of a non-factory. Traditionally. there has been a huge disparity in schedule difficulty between GT and our Coastal division...

2024 Schedule Difficulty - Projections per CFN

For one thing, in CFB there are only a few OOC games for a team to work with, and finding a new opponent for a game slot isn't easy among the Power 4 conferences. This doesn't mean we can't work with the mutts to change things, but that game is considered sacred by many. The conference game...

    Conference Realignment

I think we are in general agreement here, especially about GT donations. I was responding to your line graphs which portray trends as well as absolute $. Especially this quote: As an aside, I'd like to know what UVA is doing right about soliciting their donations. Their enrollment isn't much...

2024 Schedule Difficulty - Projections per CFN

Agreed. In the past, we had the double whammy of the mutts and Clemson baked into our football schedule, which typically made it the most challenging in the ACC over the past 20 years. It gets a little better going forward with Clemson in a rotation.

    Conference Realignment

There is no doubt that GT needs to up its donations - we are behind many of our peers. That said, I don't agree with your 2022 data guesstimates which greatly exaggerated the SEC revenue, or your point about ESPN seeing a conclusion. The data suggests that the ACC is growing contributions...

Bobby Dodd Renovation in the NE Stands

When I first heard of this a few years ago, I thought it was just a pipe dream. But since the video was made, the project snagged federal funding in 2023 for planning and engineering. It's been scaled back to extend just to 5th Street instead of 10th, "to lower costs, get the park underway...

    Conference Realignment

Thanks for confirming what I said in my previous post. Also, good point about ND and sports that compete in other conferences. I'm not sure that the clause covering those sports is what Clemson is referencing in their claim that the GOR doesn't apply to them if they leave, but it's a huge...

    Conference Realignment

I agree with @RonJohn that as long as ESPN continues to have a media deal with the ACC, the GOR seems rock solid until 2036. It’s also been stated by multiple lawyers that the GOR appears to be ironclad. I noted that the GOR states that it is a requirement for the ESPN deal, but not vice versa...
