    Syracuse Post Game

I went back to check this since I had a similar recollection. 8/12 first-down plays in the first half were runs, vs. 2/14 in the second half. We were particularly stubborn about it in the first drive, even though it wasn't working well. Perhaps just as important, more often than not we...

    Coach Brumfield gets an extension

Not sure if correlated, but aside from the missed medium-to-long-range field goal, our special teams played about as well as humanly possible last Saturday.

How to watch the game this weekend?

This is what I posted in the On To VMI thread: Edit to add: @ThatGuy confirmed that this method has worked for him.

    Expectations

Agree with this, but I'd add NC St. to your list of potential wins. ND is looking vulnerable as well. 9 more games, I think we can find 4 wins to make a bowl, with another couple of wins within the realm of feasibility.

    Analytics post mortem

Yeah, it's going to be interesting how the average pans out over the course of the season. Reducing the number of plays was intentional, although I doubt this much reduction was expected. If this trend holds we are going to see significant drops in average points scored as well. I wonder how...

Based on the chart, I'd say the answer is no.

How good are the Quarterbacks we face?

Lol, it didn't take long for a thread about 2024 QBs to become one about legacy linebackers. :)

    Analytics post mortem

To be fair, I'd throw out the TFG data. Too many 3-and-outs and turnovers to skew the data. 2023 vs. 2024 is interesting. I've heard Key say he wanted to shorten the game and reduce an opponent's opportunities to score as a strategy. Need more game data for 2024 to draw firm conclusions.

    Louisville Game

If you are talking regular season perhaps you are correct, but not necessarily. Of our 9 remaining regular season games, Louisville could be among the top 3 most difficult based on team performances to date. That leaves 6 games that could be easier wins. Before the season started, I would have...

    Syracuse Post Game

King averaged 1 1/4 picks/game last year. This year he is averaging 1/3 per game, albeit in a small sample. I wonder if he's been coached to be more risk-averse. That could result in not taking throws that he would have taken last year - instead he takes the easy checkdowns. Also, receivers...

How good are the Quarterbacks we face?

Hoping you are correct when we play them. Either way, I think we win the game.

    Syracuse Post Game

Covington gives a pretty good breakdown of what went wrong. Some issues he points out on D include linebacker and safety play, missed assignments, etc. Interestingly, no mention of our lack of sacks. He, like many on this board, questioned some of the playcalling but mostly pointed out...

How good are the Quarterbacks we face?

@slugboy - Thanks for the feedback. I didn’t rely on ESPN’s QBR for my ratings but used it as a factor. I’m in general agreement with it but there are some disparities. I think Veilleux is a decent QB – better than his current QBR. He did pretty well against us and we are (in theory) a higher...

How good are the Quarterbacks we face?

@RamblinRed - when I look at the ESPN list it has Shough at 12 and King at 13.

How good are the Quarterbacks we face?

@RamblinRed's post on teams/QBs we will face the rest of the season got me thinking. My take on all QB’s on our schedule, with tiers. This is based on performance in games played so far, so it's a small sample size. It also doesn't attempt to factor out the QB's surrounding cast. I watched...

    Syracuse Post Game

Thanks for the well-stated post supported by facts, per usual. Agree that the Louisville, Miami, and uga games certainly look like probable losses, but I already had 4 games as very likely losses in my preseason forecast. We've already won one of them, and several teams we've yet to play...

    On To VMI

I'm quite sure that the ACC scheduling folks in Chapel Hill Charlotte have always tried to balance team schedules fairly. ;)
