Nice. Haven't heard that phrase since the 90's.

    2024 Opponent News & Notes

Aside from preseason voter bias, it's largely due to not scheduling other SEC teams in the first several weeks of the season. W/L record is more significant to rankings at this point in the season. Since the top teams don't play each other, they can all go undefeated into mid-season if they're...

Hoping we are abiding by the “never waste a failure” mantra after Syracuse. We may be a better-prepared team now than if we had managed to squeak by with a win up there.

    FSU

If there is point-shaving going on, they are doing a terrible job of disguising it and looking like they are actually trying to win. Although I wouldn't put it past Free Shoes to do something like that.

Their leading tackler from last year's game at the Benz transferred to Cincy. Other than that, they appear to have many of their starters back. My impression of their defensive abilities this year is based on a condensed game that only shows successful plays by each offense. However, they...

To be fair, the ACC's own "Analyst" can't even do an ACC poll that makes sense.

Stat comparison - Tyler Shough / Haynes King (Apologies for those on mobile devices – this is a bit wordy.) Shough is listed at 6’5” 225#, vs. King at 6’3” 215# Shough is touted as a strong runner/dual threat in the SI article that described him as a transfer. Not a surprise given his size...

    On To Louisville

Yeah, there is no comparing our respective schedules. And if FSU is playing like an average G5, then GSU is playing above average after beating an SEC team last weekend. Our 5th game, 3rd conference game, and 3rd "road" game in 5 weeks. Versus 3rd game and 1st conference game, all at home. The...

Power Ranking Fail. Syracuse gets a bump for playing Bye. Meanwhile, we take care of business bigly against an FCS team but drop 2 spots. I suppose 223-0 might have only resulted in a 1-spot drop. Pitt gains 3 spots for beating an unranked WV team in a last-minute comeback. WV has yet to win...

I bet if one were to add up all the “dead money” in college sports, it would approach the GDP of some countries. Crazy business, this game.

    Analytics post mortem

Stats like some of Chad's that rank in terms of absolute numbers (like passing yards or first downs allowed) are distorted by the fact that GT has played more games than 95% of the other teams. We look better than we should in some, and worse in others. This should start to settle out after...

It's also what at least half the ACC does. Interesting that the schools that have an OOC rivalry game with an SEC team at the end of the season tend to also have better programs overall, but not always the best records.

Agree with most of what you stated, but not sure how you’re concluding that our kicking game is subpar. Yes, Birr is only 2/2 in FG, and should have made the 45-yarder at Syracuse. That’s a very small sample size to judge from, and one of his misses was from 50+. He was a 90% kicker last year...

Ranked teams with a loss to a higher-ranked team: LSU, Mich, Clemson, TAMU. Nothing strange about that. Ranked teams with a loss to a lower-ranked team: Notre Dame. Because brand. Teams that are ranked because the models still heavily factor in preseason expectations, and voters are too lazy...

How our upcoming opponents fared on Saturday: Louisville: DNP. Has only played 2 cupcakes. Duke: Required 4th-qtr rally to escape home upset by one of the worst teams in FBS (UConn). UNC: Held only a one-score lead over their FCS opponent into the fourth quarter, before finally pulling away. 11...

Agreed. Just speculation, but I wonder if King is taking extra time, consciously or subconsciously, to ensure he doesn't throw a pick. If so, it may actually increase the risk since it can allow DBs more time to recover if they are out of position.

Aaron Murray made a similar comment in his FSU game analysis. Several times he commented that King should get the ball out a split second sooner, even if the play ended up being successful. I chalked that up to it being the first game of the season. It's a bit concerning that it persists into...

Good to see play: Philo, Maddox, Elko, Blackburn (first TD catch), Harpring Good to see back and looking good: Rutherford, Alexander Areas of concern: Jamal Haynes - 7 carries for 19 yards (2.7 ave), 1 fumble. Still dinged up? Fortunately, our RB depth is looking better at this point in the...

    Conference Realignment

This guy is a lawyer and has been following the case pretty closely. I expect him to add more to his response soon. David McKenzie Another lawyer noted in the comments that, should FSU prevail in this, the decision by the "FSU judge" will be appealable anyway.

    Conference Realignment

I agree with your first sentence. But to infer that Brock Glenn's play in the ACC Championship was at the "very mediocre" level is giving Glenn waaay to much credit and an insult to Dilfer and Johnson. Your last paragraph is pure speculative nonsense.
