  1. CPJ sez...

Parent: "how did we do on our test scores"? Principal: " we did OK and we won't have to hear about the SAT for a couple of weeks".
  2. 100 Days

Agree with our guys going after the turnovers. I do believe two interceptions in the VT game (one by C Griffin-overthrown and one by PJ Davis-thrown up for grabs) were poorly thrown balls.
  3. ESPN likes Georgia Tech???

Maybe the answer is more like this: Offense - Above average 3 star talent + great coaching + unique scheme well suited to the talent = top tier offense Defense - Above average to average 3 star talent + solid coaching with no unique scheme advantage matched to the talent = average defense at...
  4. ESPN likes Georgia Tech???

    God to know. Thanks.
  5. ESPN likes Georgia Tech???

I do not know how CPJ runs a practice but in my experience once the season starts there is not much full speed "scrimmage" type practice. Mostly looking at formations, "tendency" plays out of those formations, where key personnel are lined up, and lots of two hand touch to make sure people are...
  6. ESPN likes Georgia Tech???

Agree and the higher level you go the more this is true. The NFL will not "experiment" very much. CPJ knows what he knows and I admire that he will do his thing no matter what. That applies beyond Xs and Os to how he runs his football program. Good for him.
  7. OL Coach Not Happy With Starters, Backups

PREDICTION: The OL IMO will be great this year. The coaches are in motivation mode. The backups are getting cross-trained to play multiple positions so there is a temporary trade-off between learning and performance. We are in the sore and dead leg phase of practice. Football is played with...
  8. Starters

Sure, you can redshirt any season. I Johnson RS his senior year. I believe Rodwell and Bostic RS their second year. Of course you can only RS one year but it can be any of the first 4 years.
  9. Jalen Johnson to WR?

He got banged up early in Camp and missed a lot of practice.
  10. Jalen Johnson to WR?

J Johnson has apparent skills for catching the ball but it may be a need for his blocking skills. He sure seemed like a hitter on D in the Spring. I believe we have, or had, 3 WRs dinged up: Summers, Philpott, and Oliver. I believe in interviews CPJ said Stewart and Messick needed to be more...
  11. Jalen Johnson to WR?

Was stacked behind Gray, now behind Stewart? (Not much relief there). Hope this move is not related to a longer get well for Summers and/or Philpott.
  12. 2015 Preseason All-ACC

    or PJ Davis
  13. Film Room apcarrick's Georgia Tech Offense Videos Cut by Play

JeT took a lot of hits in this game and the other early games. He got out of bounds more later in the season. I would like to see Byerly in a couple of series in all games to keep the hits down on JeT. Let Byerly do some of those punishing QB runs. He is good at it, especially when we want to...
  14. #GTCamp15

CPJ is always looking for more, and more importantly he wants his players to know he is looking for more. One day even in his "glowing" praise of J Thomas he had to add "makes good plays most days". I talked to Golden at the CFHOF night and he offered that he is looking for improvement over last...
  15. Updated Roster

Biggest surprise to me was J Stickler who jumped from 261 to 288 (this one is hard to believe but he did need to add weight). Also the backup centers have all bulked up considerably. I saw them standing together at Fan Day and was really impressed with their size and athletic look. A Marshall is...
  16. Updated Roster

A lot of QBs can dodge that first rusher or shuffle to another location to buy some time. IMO a lot of times Whitehead will get a sack when he is not the first man there. When the QB is forced to move Whitehead will be close and at that point he gets off the block and has the quick and the reach...
  17. Updated Roster

Sure he is. He uses his speed, instincts, leverage, experience, conditioning, and height. Weight is not the end-all factor.
  18. Red Shirt vs Playing as True Freshman

I do not know, but it sure sounds like that is the case. Otherwise IMO one of our DEs, Freeman, Simmons, or Merriweather should have redshirted, especially with Whitehead in the mix.
  19. Another good article: Why Georgia Tech's Paul Johnson still runs option, and why it still works

I completely agree but it takes a lot of dedicated practice to get good execution (timing, blocking, ball security) and you have to be a believer and put in the hard work to make it happen. It takes a "hard nose" like CPJ who is a believer and is dedicated to the hard work. Its not an offense...
  20. Red Shirt vs Playing as True Freshman

I forgot to mention Connors who blocked a kick and C Griffin who probably led STs in downfield tackles on kick coverage.
