That's a really good article. Goes into the idea that COVID19 like some other infectious diseases is primarily a superspreader disease. That a small number of people will cause the vast majority of the infections. There is good and bad to that idea. The good is that simple measures can allow...
Article by Dennis Dodd on testing in college football
https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/college-footballs-uphill-battle-with-standardized-consistent-coronavirus-testing-procedures-for-2020/
Two senators are planning to submit a bill this week prohibiting schools from compelling...
i just hope the mask wearing and social distancing works to start bringing this back down as I do not fancy what is going to happen if they don't work.
You have parts of Victoria State (Melbourne) going into lockdown, Leicester in England is in lockdown. You had that NW district in Germany that...
Daily numbers are not considered an accurate or appropriate way to measure what is happening as different days of the week have different natural tendencies in reporting (this is true for cases, deaths and hospitalizations). Also, sometimes data gets dumped on a day of catch up. So the standard...
There is no way Gov Kemp will stand in the way of college football, I don't believe that for one second.
If we don't have college football it will be because things get out of hand this summer and basically take away the opportunity for team sports (and probably any large gatherings)
The next...
Alot of news today. Not much of it good in the short term but hopefully it helps us gets better in the long term.
Broadway has officially closed through Jan 3 and the talks are that most productions are unlikely to start back up until late winter/early spring of 2021.
AMC has postponed opening...
Sorry to hear that and sorry for all the families that are dealing with their loved ones there. The number on ventilator is horrible. I was watching a segment this evening where a reporter was allowed in a Houston hospital to see what it is like. They mentioned that they throw everything and...
One note I saw on another board that is worth knowing. Public schools in GA do not have to report the number of SA's that test positive for COVID. So we will likely never know how many positive tests of GT SA's there are. Some of the states around us require the schools to report numbers, they...
This is an important note that I saw on another board. Due to the laws in GA the GA public schools do not have to report number of SA's who test positive as schools from some other states do.
So we are unlikely to get any positive counts from GT, UGA, GSU (both) in terms of SA's that test positive.
FWIW, this is a great article on the research being done right now on the dominant variant of the virus in the US. it is known as the G (glycine) variant and it differs from the original D (aspartic acid) variant. Over 95% of positive tests in the US by May were of the G variety. It is believed...
This article from Pat Forde will never happen, but it is a fun thought exercise to go through.
He takes the current FBS and FCS structure and creates a new college football structure with 10 conferences, each with 12 teams. Every team plays a full conference schedule plus 1 non-conference team...
Let me make my feelings very clear about this particular thread.
I want to see college football this season (I want to see college basketball even more but that isn't even a consideration until we pull off college football).
I don't think there is a reason at this point to not have a season...
I agree with you on the long term health issues. Too soon to know on that. There have clearly been some short term issues.
Ultimately we have to balance allowing people to go about their business, but not doing it in a way that overwhelms health care systems and creates too much fear and anxiety...
I'm on another board that has a covid and international sports thread. So I did find some additional places with fans in the stands. Still didn't find any in Europe.
in Australia they are currently allowing 2,000 fans for rugby and Australian Football League games. In Hungary and Vietnam they...
Jerry that is a valid opinion and I don't have any issue with you having that opinion. As i said at the bottom of my post i wouldn't cancel college football games at this point due to the players.
And I agree that any that sit out should be allowed to do so.
Heck the bigger problem is going to...
At the NCAA level (all levels from Div 1 on down) - 33 football players died between 2000 and 2016. 27 of them were classified as non-traumatic deaths (ie. they did not die due to being hit - almost all the deaths occurred in off-season conditioning - 8 in winter workouts, 6 in summer workouts...
Deaths is actually the last metric that should be used to make decisions since it is the one with the greatest lag so gives you the least accurate representation of what is happening.
in terms of metrics to use the main ones would be cases, positive case % and hospitalizations. Every one of...
The US strategy to 'flatten the curve' ended up being a failure. The stay at home orders that were issued by many states had so many cut outs for essential workers and activities that they were basically swiss cheese and not much stronger than Sweden who didn't make mandatory orders (if you look...
Keep in mind that reaching 'herd immunity' in Sweden wasn't really the goal. The goal was to ask Swedish citizens to take mitigation measures on their own (not be mandated by the government) and keep susceptible populations from getting infected and not have to shut down the economy as much. In...
In terms of masks I saw an article this morning that said just a solid cloth mask will do as it will stop most of the droplets (obviously an N95 is the best you can do, but if the majority of people are just wearing solid cloth masks that will stop most transmission). The article also went on to...
