    Where the Program stands

Good post. But the rest of FBS (the teams that matter, anyway), are improving at a faster rate. It Isn’t hard to see that on a relative basis, we’re treading water. A friend of mine who played for Bill Battle at UT once told me that it’s not a big deal to go from 6-5 to 8-3. But the move from...

Todd Stansbury counting on more football wins this season... How many...

Tech contracted sales out to a third party. It’s not worth it for them to get in a row. FWIW, I did not renew and I had seats in 107.

Can we stay competitive in the NIL era?

I was trying to remind myself of this earlier today but ... Didn't TStan state that Tech's strategy is to NOT recruit 4 and 5* players (yes, a few might land on our steps, but that's not the primary thrust). I recall him justifying the New Edge as "we will recruit 2 and 3 star players and turn...

Can we stay competitive in the NIL era?

Tech has no ability to compete with the likes of Texas, Texas A+M, Bama ... in terms of raising money. We are the Milwaukee Brewers of College sport now and the sooner we realize how to manage that, the better. I do like the Vandy model. Take the conference payout and invest in sports we CAN...

Can we stay competitive in the NIL era?

I'm increasingly of the opinion to make it unrestricted. But, along with that, SPA's (student professional athletes) have to pay for tuition, room, board and athletic department expenses (coaches, weight room, etc). The system as it stands now sticks schools and boosters with the costs and...

Can we stay competitive in the NIL era?

There was an interesting guest on the Paul Finebaum Show today who had visited 13-14 teams during their spring games. His assessment? It's the Wild West. No one ... none ... know what to do. The NCAA has had a massive failure of leadership and lacks ANY vision as to what college sports SHOULD...

Can we stay competitive in the NIL era?

I've opined on this before, but I teach at Auburn and have a lot of athletes in my classes. Their attendance is tracked electronically, I have to report grade progress 3-4 times a semester, and any student with less than a B has to be put on a plan. I get it that some schools use student...

Can we stay competitive in the NIL era?

I once asked a friend of mine who had visited Las Vegas how she liked it. "Oh it was great!" she said. "But Vegas makes me feel like a need a shower to wash all the immorality off. It's a cesspool." NIL is doing that to college sports. We will enjoy the Saturday games and then, collectively ...

    Going on the Record

Time is softening the view here. Does anyone not remember the *** chewing Geoff got after the season? He didn‘t make staff changes, he was TOLD to make staff changes. My sources at the AA made it clear. It’s SIX or you’re out. I would bet money that Geoff knows he is going to be canned. So...

    Going on the Record

Six. That is the GTAA expectation.

    Going on the Record

I think you are correct, but ... I think Tech administration is fine with the level of support that GT athletics receive. They breakeven on athletics (more or less), have some modest success, and can stay focused on academics. I don't think that will ever change. The message you get from...

    Going on the Record

I think that is the reality of the situation and the result of the chickens coming home to roost. The GTAA has never done much to engage fundraising at scale. Yes, we have a few well-heeled alumni, but operations in every county? Engagement of the total fanbase? Merchandising that sells? No, no...

    Going on the Record

A friend of mine is a very successful high school coach. He often says, "There is a big difference between losing and getting beat."

Can we stay competitive in the NIL era?

I think what you will see is a 10 game conference schedule and the possible elimination of FCS opponents as well. THAT will basically be a deathblow to smaller schools who depend on the payout for the game to fund their athletic programs. But honestly ... we may never see a reasonable change...

    2022 Adidas Swag Watch

I caught Charles Barkley on TV the other night during March Madness. He was asked about non-athletes wearing jerseys and said "don't do it". The only people who should are small children and women and never, ever keep the player's name on the jersey ... they are athletes, not necessarily role...

    Season Ticket Renewal Has Started

It won't. We are in a city with multiple entertainment alternatives, playing in a conference that doesn't have many fanatics, with a team that can't win more than 3 games and a rapidly changing fanbase. Fewer live fans are likely.

    Going on the Record

I think it describes the state of our program when we are arguing over whether or not six wins is a winning year. :ROFLMAO:

Can we stay competitive in the NIL era?

I don't disagree with your point. In fact, I agree with it. And another reason why I think we are more like Vandy than any other school.

Can we stay competitive in the NIL era?

There aren't. We are Vandy. That's the reality.

Can we stay competitive in the NIL era?

It will flounder. Alabama is already on ANOTHER massive fundraising campaign to build an NIL warchest. Many other schools are doing likewise. Tech is so dysfunctional ... STILL! Not sharing databases between the GTAA, the Hill and the AA? in 2021? I started day drinking early today to watch...
