    Going on the Record

Long left ND because he and HC Brian Kelly had philosophical differences and that's that. He joined Tennessee as an analyst which is not uncommon. Usually, and what no one talks about, is the agent (probably Jimmy Sexton) places a coach in an available program until he can re-sign at a higher...

Mostly “Fire Geoff Collins”, some reminiscing, maybe bourbon or other distractions

I think this is an excellent post. When I ran a rather large business, I recognized that my top commercial executives, the ones responsible for growing sales and market share ... were not up to the task. It was my field of expertise, so in addition to running the business, I chaired all the...

TStan said "This is my guy." IMO, Collins must win 6 for TStan not to get canned. And that's what I was told was an accurate interpretation.

I think the donors made it clear. No more money for the program if the Geoff Show isn’t successful (min 6 wins) in 22. Fire him today and we will move on. Vouch for him, and you will go too. That was the message.

TStan has thrown his future in with Geoff. If Collins is ousted, TStan will be packing his bags.

I respect the emphasis on wins. But, how would you feel if we got seven wins and only 10,000 season tix renewals, only 11am games, and a 50% drop in AT donations? That’s what did in Butch. It was the massive drop in ticket and suite sales.

"The University of Texas boosters recently set up a program that's paying $50,000 per year to offensive linemen who are on scholarship. It's part of the nonprofit Horns with Heart initiative." This is what scares me. Does Tech have the resources to do this for even a few players? Geoff can be...

This scenario reminds me almost exactly of the Butch Jones debacle at UT. Personally, I think Geoff has lost the support of the general fanbase, the alumni players, and season ticket holders. I don't think his record this year really matters at this point. To compete, TStan has to also start...

    Collins on Packer & Durham

Over the last 3 years, GT and Vandy have the same number of wins. Since 2002, Tech has a win rate of 55% compared to 35% for Vandy. With the constrained resources we have, I think we are a lot closer to that model than not.

Is it? I could see Geoff moving on to a DC role at say, Vanderbilt or New Mexico. Anything he makes is deducted from his Tech salary.

It doesn't cost us anything if someone else hires him and absorbs his contract. That's usually the way it works and I would not doubt the message was for him to look for his next gig.

    Season Ticket Renewal Has Started

City population is irrelevant to attendance. The essential KPI is alumni density < 5 miles.

I disagree. There are several different leadership models including "Strong president, weak generals" along with "Weak president, strong generals". I think the powers that be recognized (finally) that Geoff is a weak leader who surrounded himself with weak staff and now ... needed to surround...

    We need to jump ship

Perhaps. I know in Tennessee in the 1980's when I practiced, if you did not have a recognized "engineering" degree as defined by the state, you were not allowed to sign off on engineering documents. It frustrated the hell out of guys with 20 years experience (but not a recognized degree) and I...

    We need to jump ship

When I was a practicing engineer, a 4 year degree was required by the state for legal reasons (and to meet code even if it was not required for a PE to sign off on the design). Engineering technologists, some of whom were quite good, did not meet this threshold.

    We need to jump ship

I don't think Georgia kids are the target. I was on campus recently and walked into the Mechanical Engineering building. I think it was the 5th student I asked for directions before one responded in English. All Chinese. Tech has zero problem selling out its program, just not to anyone here.
