Can we stay competitive in the NIL era?

Belichick, in this, is talking about talent. Not schedule.

Can we stay competitive in the NIL era?

Alabama played against 10 first round draft picks, 15 if you count UGA twice. I need to get the full playoff numbers which I will. Tech played against 7 first rounds picks .. one of those was UGA (which had 5). That's what Belichick was referring to.

Can we stay competitive in the NIL era?

Bill Belechik Bill Belichick said it best. Playing 4 years against the best players prepares you for the professional game in a way that playing for smaller schools can't. Again ... the probability is higher that you will play pro ball coming from LSU than Bowling Green.

Can we stay competitive in the NIL era?

There are two factors at play. The first is the NIL money in absolute terms. I agree with your comment that smaller schools who develop will ultimately yield that talent to larger schools with sizable NIL budgets. The other factor though, is the pathway to the NFL. That's really what LSU...

I'm happy to. I'm just trying to determine your experience with Tech. I have followed it for 44 years.

Yawn. We have NO CHANCE to recruit top athletes to Tech. We might get some via the portal who are unhappy playing at their original pledge, but Tech today is not a desirable destination. Why would it be? We place relatively few players into the pros each year (by comparison) and we have won 3...

You think Geoff Collins in 2022 is the first coach to face bigger, stronger athletes? Yes ... a talking point from 1960 is totally relevant. You can win with talent or you can win with scheme. If you can't get talent, you better have scheme. As 5*, fair enough. But l encourage you to actually...

Which means they have no NFL future. That's what killed Malzahn at Auburn. I don't disagree with you btw, but it's a strategic decision that I don't think Tech is capable of making.

Re the "magical scheme", Bobby Dodd opined on this 60 years ago at Tech. We will never out recruit the factories. His whole philosophy was to minimize possessions, manage the clock and try to keep the score within 7 going into the fourth quarter. "If we can keep it close, I'll find a way to...

Collins has lost the fanbase. I'm betting season ticket renewals are well under water based on the calls I'm getting to renew. No ...five is not good enough.

Can we stay competitive in the NIL era?

Yes, I do. Because there is no alternative today. We describe here, in this forum, as if it is happening this year! It isn't. It's a concept that MIGHT happen in a few years. And the best analysis I have read is that the SEC will renegotiate it's contract and, potentially, the Super League...

Can we stay competitive in the NIL era?

Regardless, it’s not going to happen until the SEC contract is up for renewal. In what? 10 years?

Can we stay competitive in the NIL era?

That's highly likely NOT to happen. Breaking away would trigger anti-trust issues. More likely, the conferences remain how they are and ... there is a Premier League of the Top 10-20 programs that one can opt into joining if it meets certain criteria.

Can we stay competitive in the NIL era?

There is no need to drop down. Can Tech play 0.500 (at least)? Yes. Scheduling will help. That alone keeps the ACC Network money coming in and you fund other sports where you have a more than reasonable chance to compete. You will not be able to stay in the ACCN without football, so a dropdown...

Can we stay competitive in the NIL era?

I think of NIL changing college sports much like free agency did for MLB. I can envision to the top teams paying top $ for the best recruits, but they can't get everybody ... there's a limit. So, smaller schools will become a developmental league ... e.g., can't get into Texas A&M? Go to Tech...

Can we stay competitive in the NIL era?

I don't think it's going to be one conference playing only itself. It's probably an "open conference" where any one can apply and be included if it meets certain requirements. So, Alabama will still play for the SEC championship and then have X number of Super League Games on top of that. The...

Can we stay competitive in the NIL era?

The EPL is a good league and a good model. But CFB has to worry about antitrust. Getting to a new model is going to be painful.

For the good of college football

"They" don't want to stop it. No one does ... there is too much money to be made. We are not in Kansas anymore.
