Do what? Players did enough to win? You think the players were coached to completely foul up the coverage? You think the RB was coached to fumble? You think the DL was coached to abandon lanes? You think all of this was done on gameday? I would say that at USF, if anything, PJ found a way to...
Agree 100%. Not sure why he was ever an end when you're trying to get some type of size. However he will be eaten alive in pass coverage if they try to make him do that.
What? Who said anything about judging based only on that? I just don't personally think he would be that great of a hire. Nothing I have seen from him would guarantee success at Tech. There are worse candidates to be sure.
No hell he didn't. Charlie knows defense. His defense was lit up. We have any defense at all we win. Searcy doesn't fumble we win. We have ST coverage we win. Out coaching didn't have shyte to do with that loss.
You tech fans that want Venables are hilarious. WTH would he come to GT? He almost makes the same salary as PJ now. Do you think they won't pay a little more to keep him? Charlie Strong, meh. OK at Lville. Sucked at Texas. To be seen at USF.
According to the link posted earlier, GT has the smallest FB staff in the ACC and that's after including the newly added staffers. Of course like the article mentions, there are credibility issues with the NCAA survey.
Justify? No. As I said to your other post the problem that I have with losing to USF is that we are coupling that with a whole bunch of losses. Not that we lost 1 game to a decent lower level program. In general, GT should be expected to beat USF.
If we had lost to USF more than once you would have a point. The only concerning thing about losing to USF is that it comes with a whole bunch of other losses. Teams lose to teams they shouldn't all the time.
Not all of them are coaches. The have something like 29 football staff that includes people like their current OC who was a football staff member prior to this year. I think Hugh Freeze (spelling) is on "staff" there now.
Agreed. However it's not like recruiting has really seen an obvious uptick yet either. I don't actually think you will see results of this for 3-5 years.
Exactly. Bama has multiple former head coaches on the support staff as "quality control". They have something like 50 combined coaches and staffers. So does UGA. GT has what maybe 15? CPJ can't control that and it's not his choice, has everything to do with budget which is squarely on the AD to...
We haven't been anywhere close to support staff until maybe very recently. Having said that, if it's translating to improvement in some way, it has yet to show up.
You do realize that the number of coaches is limited by the NCAA right? The support staff is not. So by definition to hire one or the other someone must go. We're not "short" any coaches.
It's not about improving the offense. It's about getting rid of the recruiting stigma associated with it. I agree 100% that generally the offense is not the problem on gameday. It absolutely contributes negativily to getting playmakers on both sides of the ball.
So PJ just rides around practice in a golf cart talking to boosters and the press? I find that hard to believe for some reason. What press would that even be? He apparently hates them all...
Well if he gets no results it's not worth doing...
I think PJ could do minor tweaks to basically shut down all of the negative talk. Throw about 30-35% even when not needed to win. Use a gun package 15% of the time. Use a TE. Use 3 actual WR personnel or heaven forbid 4 WR. None of those...
That site wasn't even around when Calvin was recruited. CJ was not a consensus 5star. Doesn't really matter though because we're not getting another Calvin.
