    Al Groh's comments re: GT

When Al Groh was fired, he made the following comments to the Roanoke Times: Link At the time, myself and I think every other GT fan dismissed his comments as just more ramblings by a coach who was angry at being fired in the middle of a season. But with all that has happened during this off...

Custis, Hunt-Days not eligible for ’14 football season

According to Kelly Quinlan, the Griffin & Walkosky leavings were linked but he also said that there was nothing NCAA related to it. So I don't think the Griffin thing is related to the academics issues of Custis & Hunt-Days.

Custis, Hunt-Days not eligible for ’14 football season

I'd have to go look it up but I think the NCAA requirements are 2.0 or below but the requirements for Tech are a 2.2. If this is the case, he might have made C's in all his classes but would therefore still be ineligible because he has to remain eligible by Tech standards, since they're more...

Custis, Hunt-Days not eligible for ’14 football season

Not really. Something important to note is that we have always allowed our coaches to take exceptions. Custis was one of these. The thing is that they were just limited to a hard # of exceptions. When/if you hit your limit, if there was someone else you really wanted, you couldn't even talk...

70 Years of GT Football – Odds of Getting a Better Coach Than CPJ

Thanks for taking the time to do the #'s. I disagree with you on the 20% but that's irrelevant. The point I most take issue with is the highlighted statement. So what if that happens? If a guy does well enough for you that he gets lured away by another school, that means he was doing well...

Custis, Hunt-Days not eligible for ’14 football season

That's correct. Flunkgate and the probation were 2 different things. Flunkgate was due to, literally, Gailey treating the players like adults. He trusted they were going to class, study halls, and that the academic support staff were doing their jobs. They weren't. The probation happened...

Custis, Hunt-Days not eligible for ’14 football season

From what I'm hearing, the Custis family may not be telling Eric the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. Either that, or since he was taking all remedial classes, he may have needed to make a certain GPA (maybe a 3.0?) or something to get eligible. Disclaimer: the 2nd line is...

Custis, Hunt-Days not eligible for ’14 football season

Gailey put too much trust in the academic people doing their job with not enough oversight. I have no insider info here but it certainly seems to be at the very least an oversight issue as well as the player's responsibility.

Is it different from Flunkgate being Gailey's fault?

Custis, Hunt-Days not eligible for ’14 football season

GMC is a junior college. It isn't in the NCAA so clearinghouse doesn't affect them.

    KeShun Freeman

One of the bright spots of the spring, no doubt. It's a good thing he came to GT as ready as he is. I don't think anyone foresaw him having as significant a role as he apparently will have.

    Tiers in the ACC

I think you redefined the top tier into a Tier 1a and Tier 1B so you wouldn't have to admit we really are third tier! ;) LOL, just yanking your chain.

Two Newish Pass Concepts in Spring Game

I admit it could be selective memory but I don't remember a lot of slants with Tevin.

Two Newish Pass Concepts in Spring Game

Not necessarily. If the DB lines up on the inside shoulder of the receiver, the slant wouldn't be there. In that case, you would either want to adjust to an out, an out & up, or a straight fly pattern. Correct?

    Pat Hill to GT?

Correct. But had they not CHOSEN to do so, guess which team would have represented the Coastal division in that ACCCG? Here's a hint: it wouldn't have been the Yellow Jackets.

    Pat Hill to GT?

Miami was eligible. UNC was not. Miami OPTED not to go to attempt to minimize their NCAA penalties from previous years' violations. But they were most certainly eligible to go.

    Pat Hill to GT?

I said . We have owned Duke head-to-head but they DID finish in the top 25 last year and I would absolutely consider us a higher level program than them in most years. But if you ask any national sportswriter, commentator, or general non-ACC sports fan who had a better year last year or even...

    Pat Hill to GT?

5-3 with a head-to-head win over the other 5-3 team IS finishing ahead. If Miami hadn't turned down the ACCCG, they'd have gone. Arguing otherwise is a bit silly.

    Pat Hill to GT?

Well, there are a few problems wrong with your rationale. First of all, Miami finished ahead of us in the Coastal in 2012 and opted not to play in the ACCCG to minimize penalties from the NCAA. But they DID finish ahead of us. We were 6-6 going into the championship game, which isn't exactly...

The Journey Of Georgia Tech's Jeremiah Attaochu

I know. And I also really enjoyed the conversation back & forth. One of the great things about this site is that people can disagree about subjects and discuss it in civil tones without one guy resorting to calling another names, etc.
