What are next year's likely openings?
Arkansas... South Carolina... Florida State...Miami...
If I am Elliott from Clemson I may wait for one of these to come instead.
I certainly dont think GT can only win running the option, but I think running the modern option gives GT an identity and bringing in someone who runs it would directly translate to the current roster.
I honestly believe if Troy Calhoun or Chad Lunsford came in to coach the team would win 10...
Last night was a playoff game for UGA.... They lost.
Either Ohio State or OU is fine with me, but UGA doesn't deserve it. Doesn't mean they aren't a great team, but they had their chance.
Yea Whisenhut coaches Philip Rivers... And by coaches I mean stands near him with a headset on. Philip Rivers probably hasn't required coaching in 10 years, and probably calls his own plays.
Man, forgot about Dave Wandstat or however you spell his name...
Jim Mora... Bill Callahan... Dave Wandstat... Lovie Smith. Mike Riley....
Have any of these NFL to College experiments worked? Or is Georgia Tech going to try and become the first one?
You can't compare anything Elliott as done to what he can achieve at Georgia Tech. He works at the #2 football powerhouse in the country since 2012 or so. I am not saying he isn't a talented coach, but to think he isn't working almost exclusively with the nations best talent you are fooling...
In reading the threads with all the names, the one that is confusing to me is that nobody seems to like Chad Lunsford from Georgia Southern.
He's 41, so he is a young up-and-comer...
He is from Georgia...
He has recruited the SE his entire career (for Auburn and Georgia Southern)
His primary...
NFL to college hires have a track record of being disastrous.
Lovie Smith
Bill Callahan
Jim Mora
Mike Riley
I am sure there are more, but the high profile ones have not worked out.
If he goes with this hire I would guess the program is in rough shape for 3-4 years.
When I posted the poll I meant.... TRIPLE OPTION. That could be the New Mexico/GASO variety, the Air Force/Nebraska variety, or the Army/CPJ/Navy variety. But I meant TRIPLE OPTION.
Not RPO, not zone read, etc.
About 70% of the people on this forum (by vote) want to keep running some form of the option... I think the reason it matters is the system is unique and has given Tech an identity.. They aren't just going along with the herd and doing what everyone else does, and I think there is a sense of...
That offense led the nation in rushing and big plays multiple times... without Georgia Tech talent. It would be taken to another level at Tech. Also put a few RB's in the NFL at one of the worst programs in NCAA history.
They have some under center stuff as well... It is very versatile and can...
Which is completely insane... Right before his extension Iowa beat them 63 points. They lost a game 63-0 and then he immediately got an extension.
Wisconsin beat them by 30
Maryland beat them by 30
Iowa beat them by 63
Nebraska beat them by 20
Penn State beat them by 39
Purdue beat them by 40...
