When you have a 5 run lead you can't walk the lead off batter of the inning. I don't care if you have to groove a 80 mph pitch down the middle but you absolutely, positively, IN NO CIRCUMSTANCE walk the lead off man. You're just begging for trouble.
The bullpen has been better over the last few weeks but as others have mentioned, the lack of true closer is a SERIOUS flaw. I keep hoping they'll give Newcomb a shot at closer. He's stretched out enough where he could probably go more than 1 inning as well.
My biggest gripe about Julio is you just have no idea what you're gonna get from him. He could go 7 innings and give up 6 hits with 2 ER or he could go 4 innings and give up 9 hits and 5 ER....neither would surprise me.
Depending on how good Keuchel pitches in the next month, it's still possible that we may need a starting pitcher and bullpen help IMO. There's no doubt that the offense has helped mask the pitching issues we still have. Typically, games tighten up in the playoffs and you're less likely to face...
Here's a few things I'd do just in general...
1) Shave off at least 20-25 games from the season. The season is just too long. I love baseball but I hate watching postseason baseball being played in cold weather. Baseball is a warm weather sport. Baseball should be wrapping up about the time...
Good...The strike zone has been all over the place today. Once again, sign me up for balls and strikes being called electronically. I'm tired of the strike zone changing from game to game, or in this case, inning to inning.
