Thoughts from being there
- Meka played behind Howard (Saba did not play - no injury, Meka got the chance tonight) - did not play much. Howard played well early, then really struggled late. Last 5+ minutes was small ball
- Neither point guard had a great game ... both did some good and some bad...
My thoughts from being there
- Stetson is not as good as Miami-Ohio. Not as quick on perimeter.
- GT played a LOT of zone, especially in first half - Stetson struggled against it.
- Howard had two fouls in first five minutes (we can't afford that most nights) - he stayed in a little, then Saba...
My take from being there
Defense was good, very good at times, not great.
Miami has veteran guards and they are hard to turnover.
Offense is the bigger issue.
If Devoe has a bad night - how are we getting to 70 on anyone?
The lineup that was in most of the second half -...
Excellent write-up on Miami-Ohio in article below. They are 'old', guard oriented, a lot of one on one - may have overachieved last year and basically same players just a year older.
Scroll down in article to find Miami-Ohio write-up. This article puts them in a group of five as 'second tier'...
I was there - some comments/thoughts ... long post to touch a lot of questions posted
Starting five - Sturdivant, Devoe, Kahlid, Usher, Howard
Parham was not dressed (injury) - was walking and dribbling with no limp/issues before game - so hopefully will be back before Xmas
Maxwell was not...
From a medical web site below - recovery time from meniscus surgery ... it all depends how severe the injury was. Parham could be back by January, or not at all during the sesason. The article in AJC says he did have surgery - so injury was severe enough that rest was likely not the best option...
Three year series - first two (this is second) at McCamish - and next season at Ga State, supposedly it will be the first game in Ga State's new arena.
A three year series was also signed with UAB - last year was supposed to be at UAB (UAB had Covid issues and game was cancelled very late) with...
We should be going to UGA .. Big 10 team in Atlanta ... and the GA State and UAB series (which Pastner has said they would play) - both of them likely home games (GA State for sure .... UAB - TBD if we go there next season or third year of the series).
The challenge for NCAA is how do you strike a balance between allowing players to profit off their NIL - while maintaining competitive balance.
I see no way Supreme Court does not rule against the NCAA on this, but hopefully they consider the competitive advantage arguments and define some...
Agree with your assessment - except the teams Mark Price and John Salley's junior/senior years might have been the best teams GT ever had ... A lot of people under 30 may never have seen them or watched much of them (the style of play was different back then also) - but talent and chemistry wise...
The test with CJP will be the next 3-4 years. He has done good job from where he started. One year he whiffed on recruits - but otherwise has followed the roadmap he laid out at the start.
Talent coming in next year is among best we've seen in a long time. Exposure and ACC Championship will...
Jose and all the players (on every team in the country) should do what is in their best interest with regards to the extra year of eligibility. I have no doubt CJP and staff will work with each of them to help them understand where they might land if they choose to pursue professional...
Two interesting stats ....
GT is now tied for fourth in all time ACC Tournament titles with four (Duke, UNC, State are 1-2-3 - GT is tied with Wake at 4).
Since GT joined the ACC - GT is third is most ACC Tournament titles - with twice as many as anyone since then except Duke/UNC (several...
I have been season ticket holder for 30+ years (since early 80's). I attend almost all home games and most years make it to one or sometimes a couple road games. This year was frustrating because of not getting to attend any games in person, but I was able to watch every game on TV (live or...
I was at the ACC Tournament today - so nice to see in person hoops for first time all season!
Observations ....
-- Syracuse zone surprised me to a degree - thought is was more traditional 2-1-2 when I see them at McCamish .... it is really a 2-2-1 with the middle two really extended to wings...
As season ticket holder for many years - who did not get to attend a single game this season for first time since before I was a student (a long long time ago) ... When a friend got ACC Tournament tickets and asked me to go with him I was excited to get to see GT in person on Wednesday for first...
Well said - last years team improved dramatically when they scrapped the motion offense (center distributing ball from high post) to one with more pick/roll focused because James Banks was liability on offense at high post (he was not in low post or in pick/roll or on defense). Howard would...

GT beat USC in 1992 NCAA - James Forrest three at buzzer.
Also played them home-home a few years later - winning easy in Atlanta and losing in Los...
