Brent Key is not the answer

Paul Johnson was offered the HC job at Auburn and turned it down. He liked the student athletes at Tech (smart, good kids, seldom in trouble). The problem for CPJ is the AA wanted him gone and starved him into submission. There are coaches who just want to coach and not get wrapped up in the...

Brent Key is not the answer

Not exactly. The power brokers hated him and had Hootie run him out. It's just the same at Auburn when Pat Dye organized a coup to remove Terry Bowden.

Brent Key is not the answer

You are 100% correct. It was Dodd himself who told him to leave Tech and take the Bama job for that reason.

Brent Key is not the answer

He doesn’t. But neither does Mike Dubose, Dennis Franchione, Mike Price or Mike Shula. The prez and AD of Alabama that both hired him left and he had zero support from their replacements. He actually got a contract extension but … with no raise, stripped him of his ability to hire and fire...

NIL, Transfers, and Stratospheric Salaries. What Is the Future of GT Football and College Football in General?

I recently chatted with a highly recruited D1 player whose time was in the 80's. He suggested that NIL was not the problem, the transfer portal was the problem. Coaches have to create entirely new teams every year now and there's nowhere near the comradery or development there used to be (his...

    Conference Realignment

Tulane is dying as a school. I nearly went there before enrolling at Tech. Financially struggling, they’ve closed a number of schools (degree programs), and they not as flush as they used to be. Maybe they’ve righted the ship but they once had a strong regional reputation… now, much much more...

Thacker out at DC, now Safeties coach

I think that's true, but didn't UT lose a lot of their recruits under Jones? I recall Pruitt quipping at practice how weak the players were, athletically.

Where do we go from here?

I don’t know. The two teams who climbed out the gutter I’m most familiar with are Tennessee (under Butch Jones) and Alabama, before Saban (Mike Shula). Both turned the corner … Tennessee totally flipped the roster and demanded big boy football. Players were shown the door if they didn’t buy in...

    Bowling Green Post Game... 😢

Nobody said give up. It’s called development … and a reason Batt was hired.

    Bowling Green Post Game... 😢

Georgia Tech is prohibited by Georgia law from subsidizing Athletics at a rate more than 10% of the athletics operating budget. This comes up every year it seems, but the reality is athletics is supposed to be self-supporting at the D1 level.

    Conference Realignment

To throw wood on the fire, I’m enjoying a cocktail on my balcony as UGA rolls into town. The town is alive, hopping and thriving. In my time, Auburn held a massive Wreck Tech Parade and it was a really, really big deal to play Tech. UGA is big, don’t get me wrong, but Auburn saw Tech as a...

    Conference Realignment

As one ESPN executive said, “Nobody cares about rivalries anymore.” And that’s true. It’s ratings that matter. When I was at Tech, we played Alabama, Tennessee, UGA, Auburn, and had .. the toughest SEC schedule of ANY SEC team, let alone a non SEC team. The transition to ACC play was just...

    Rivalries

When I was at Tech, the three main rivals beside UGA were Alabama, Tennessee, and Auburn. Alabama mentions Tech in their fight song. Auburn had a great Wreck Tech Parade and it was a pretty big deal. Tennessee of course, was the Dodd connection. If you don’t feed a rivalry, it dies.

    Conference Realignment

Army hasn't been relevant other than emotionally for a very, very long time. Has Army competed for anything of importance in the last 30 years? I think not.

    Conference Realignment

Auburn hasn't been relevant in 10 years. Agreed. When was the last time Army was relevant? 1935?

    Conference Realignment

Sorry. Whether Army or Navy wins or loses is irrelevant to CFB today.

    Conference Realignment

Seriously? As if it translates into something meaningful? When was the last time ANY service academy competed for a natty? I can't think of any.

Has the cycle started to shift for the SEC?

Last I heard, Alabama recruited most heavily from Texas, not Georgia. Tommy Reese is a disaster as OC and apparently, Kevin Steele isn't even calling the plays on defense. It's a hot mess in T Town.

    SEC Bashing …

They are tied to the other posts I mentioned. If you don't care for it, just go about your day. I found his perspective interesting and if it's not your cup of tea, no problem.

    SEC Bashing …

From what I gathered, the host team didn't really care much in general. However, a fan who attended that game described their treatment as absurdly bad.
