I think Clemson is capable of covering that spread IF they get turnovers and better quarterback play both of which are problematic. If they beat us by more than 5 touchdowns, then that is a sign we are not improving. 70-7 with a TD thrown by a punter playing quarterback is not acceptable.
I think we can hang with them...for a while. I don't think their offense is nearly the juggernaut it was last year but that defense is something else again. We have to move the football at least some of the time. Multiple three and outs will result in a blowout sooner or later.
Snoddy graded #1? That makes me suspicious right there. Shaq is number one and number two due to the fact that he usually took out two players on every play. Smelter, Hill, and Waller? Yep. I believe it. Hill in particular was an underappreciated player in his time. Need a block on the...
Interesting question but I doubt they pay any attention to it. I am sure they have their own grading system but you don't have to be an expert to see we still do not have a good line on either side of the ball.
I think they are getting it from the "Jimmys" who are the skill position players. The difference in athletic ability between our offensive skill guys and their defensive backs was stark. The "Joes" are another matter as we have linemen that look like Tarzan and play like Jane. IIWII
Duke and Miami will be about due for a meltdown. Possibly any one of Pitt, Virginia, and Virginia Tech. Before the season, I picked Tech to win 4 games so I admit that losing to Northern Illinois may have put that in question.
He is probably just being polite as Clemson fans are apt to be most of the time but he may also have been thinking about 2011 when #5Clemson came to Grant Field a huge favorite as an undefeated team and damn if they don't make Tevin Washington look like an absolute wizard running the option...
He is third string for a reason. If you or me were to see Charlie Thomas or Stone bearing down on us we just might be a little pitch happy too. One time he (the quarterback, I think) got hammered by Stone and no one blocked him, they did not even touch him. I winced at the impact.
What you are saying is that we have to play a perfect game (within reason of course) I will be shocked if we can truly put together even one or two drives against that defense. Unlike some, I think we can stop their offense or at least slow them down but multiple three and outs by our offense...
That is good advice except that they will likely as not play man to man press coverage and dare us to throw it long knowing their linemen will get pressure and sacks.
True, but he is making plays while some people on that defense are not. He seems to be everywhere while others are nowhere. I still think he is our best ball player for the moment. That said, I would trade ten of Charlie for one more good lineman on either side of the ball.
Well, this is the thing. Sims looks the part. He is bigger, faster, stronger arm, so on and so forth. I can certainly understand the coaches preference for him in a big game.
If he is the one I am thinking about, he seems to have a history of getting hurt a lot. I am glad he seems to be OK again. God knows, Yates and Sims will need every lineman playing his absolute best next week.
